“You're All Wrong.” DLSS 5 Causes Uproar in Gaming World, Nvidia's CEO Responds to Sharp Criticism

TECH

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang took the stage at the GPU Technology Conference to discuss DLSS 5 and the controversies surrounding the new tech.

Jensen Huang, according to IGN, stressed that people criticizing DLSS 5 are wrong, stating that control over implementation will remain in the hands of game developers. Even though the innovation will use artificial intelligence, it shouldn't significantly alter the final product or change the creators' vision, according to the company head. Huang referred to it as the most significant breakthrough in computer graphics since the first ray-tracing in 2018.

DLSS 5 combines control over geometry, textures, and all game elements with generative AI, Huang said. It's not about post-processing at the individual frame level; it's about generative control at the geometry level, he added.

Nvidia also announced during the introduction of DLSS 5 that the technology will help creators deliver a whole new level of photorealistic graphics.

However, fans are more concerned about the aesthetic changes shown in the new trailer rather than how the technology works. Critics say the AI interferes too aggressively with the original art design of games.

That's the main issue for many critics. In a new demo for the game Resident Evil Requiem, the protagonist, Grace Ashcroft, has a more realistic and visually detailed face thanks to AI. Still, some gaming enthusiasts argue she's lost her original look and ethnic features. The studio head stands by the change and dismisses the criticism, so a shift seems unlikely. Players may have to either adjust or stick with older versions of the game.
