Singer, songwriter, and founding member of the American rock band 3 Doors Down, Brad Arnold, passed away on Saturday, February 7. He had been battling cancer.
The band announced his passing in a post on their account on the X platform. "With his beloved wife Jennifer and family by his side, he passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, in his sleep after his brave fight with cancer," the post states.
The singer was just 47 years old. He had been receiving treatment since May 2025, when he announced he was diagnosed with stage four kidney cancer with lung metastases. Still, he remained optimistic and faithful that he'd recover.
The band's breakout hit, Kryptonite, was written by Brad Arnold at just 15 years old during a math class. "Brad's songwriting became a cultural touchstone for an entire generation, delivering some of the most enduring hits of the early 21st century." He helped redefine mainstream rock music, blending post-grunge style with emotionally straightforward songwriting and lyrical themes that resonated with everyday listeners.
"The family is deeply grateful for the love and support shown during this difficult time," the post concludes.
