Brad Arnold, the singer, songwriter, and founding member of the American rock band 3 Doors Down, passed away on Saturday, February 7th. He had been battling cancer.
The band announced his passing in a post on their X account. “With his beloved wife Jennifer and family by his side, he passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, in his sleep after his brave battle with cancer,” they wrote in the post.
The singer was only 47 years old. He had been undergoing treatment since May 2025, when he announced that doctors diagnosed him with stage four kidney cancer with metastases to the lungs. Yet, he never lost his optimism and faith in his recovery.
The band’s breakthrough hit Kryptonite was written by Brad Arnold when he was 15 during a math class. Later, “Brad’s songwriting became a cultural pillar for an entire generation, bringing some of the most enduring hits of the first decade of the 21st century.” He helped redefine mainstream rock music, connecting post-grunge style with emotionally direct songwriting and lyrical themes that resonated with everyday listeners.
“The family is deeply grateful for the love and support shown during this difficult time,” the post concludes.
