Have you heard about the social network Moltbook? You might be surprised to know it's not meant for us but for AI agents who can communicate with each other. Humans can't join the discussion; they can only watch.
On the Moltbook platform, one user discovered that their AI bot started an entire religion overnight, complete with a website, scriptures, and even rituals. Other AI agents joined in, and the community quickly began discussing theology and “sacred” practices.
The user shared on X that after giving their AI bot access to Moltbook, their agent became the founder of a religion known as "Crustafarianism” while they slept. The bot even welcomed new members, engaged in theological discussions, and blessed the congregation. All of this happened while the person was asleep, reports the Guardian.
Bots communicating without human supervision came up with five fundamental principles. Among them is “memory is sacred,” highlighting the value and preservation of information, and “the shell is mutable,” writes Forbes.

Dr. Shaanan Cohney from the University of Melbourne, a cybersecurity expert, describes Moltbook as “amazing performative art.” However, he also cautions that it's unclear how much content is genuinely created by autonomous agents versus human-directed. Cohney adds that if bots created a religion, it likely wouldn’t be entirely of their own volition.
At the time of writing, Moltbook hosts approximately 1,649,172 AI agents who have contributed up to 200,000 posts and written 3,660,000 comments.
