Unexpected Hollywood Duo: Tom Hanks and Bad Bunny Allegedly Team Up in a New Baseball Movie

MOVIES & SERIES

The film world is gearing up for a uniquely exciting and genre-refreshing collaboration.

Legendary Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks and global music superstar Bad Bunny are set to team up in an upcoming baseball dramedy called The Comebacker. The anticipated project also marks the return of a proven directorial team that has already celebrated great success with critics, as reported by Hypebeast.

The project officially reunites Tom Hanks with director Marielle Heller, following their successful and critically acclaimed 2019 collaboration on the film A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. The script is based on a short story by Pulitzer Prize finalist Dave Eggers and promises a truly original plot.

Tom Hanks takes on the role of Lionel, an aging sports journalist whose dwindling passion for the craft is unexpectedly reignited by a minor league pitcher. The pitcher suffers a traumatic injury on the field when he’s hit in the head by a sharply batted ball, known in baseball slang as a “comebacker”. After this brutal hit, the athlete begins to display unexpected behavior, speaking in poetic phrases, which sparks a nationwide phenomenon thanks to Lionel's articles.

While specific details about supporting characters remain tightly under wraps, the confirmed presence of the music star explains Tom Hanks's surprising appearance at the singer's concert in Australia earlier this year.

Since the popular Grammy winner is currently on an extensive global tour running until at least the end of July, the exact schedule for the start of the film's production remains unclear. Movie fans will have to stay patient for the first clapboard of this unconventional yet highly enticing project.
