The return of a football legend, an action thriller featuring Anya Taylor-Joy, an ambitious drama with a touch of the supernatural, or a load of sci-fi and fantasy. It seems 2026 will belong to Apple TV.
If you haven't figured out which streaming service to subscribe to this year, Apple TV just dropped some reasons why it might be the one. They've got new stuff featuring Anya Taylor-Joy, who's back with the new series Lucky six years after The Queen's Gambit. And there's more: the fourth season of Ted Lasso, more Godzilla, another season of For All Mankind, a new dark comedy with Keanu Reeves called Outcome, and plenty more.
Here's a rundown of the highlights, and we'll also cover some things we didn't learn anything new about this week, but there's still a good chance we'll see them this year.
New and Returning Comedies
Apple used to own the sci-fi genre with shows like Silo or Foundation. But this year, they're making a big move into comedy. Right now, the third season of Shrinking with Jason Segel and Harrison Ford is on, and it's getting rave reviews. Later this year, we'll see the dark comedy Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed starring Tatiana Maslany (premieres May 20), about a divorced mom diving into the criminal world. And there's the return of the football legend Ted Lasso (premieres this summer) and a tennis comedy The Dink (premieres July 24).
Comedies are hitting movies too. On April 10, the film Outcome directed by Jonah Hill with Keanu Reeves and Cameron Diaz premieres. The main character is a famous actor being blackmailed. There’s also an action comedy Mayday coming on September 4 with Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh, about an American pilot crashing in Russian territory during the Cold War. And don't miss the fun on October 9, when Matchbox The Movie based on the popular toy from Mattel drops. In it, John Cena plays a CIA agent who drags his old buddies into a dangerous conspiracy that threatens the world.
Dramas, Sci-fi, and Thrillers
Now, let’s jump into the genres that require a bit more focus but can be super rewarding. On February 20, Apple's streaming service will drop the second season of The Last Thing He Told Me with Jennifer Garner. It's based on a famous book series about a woman whose husband mysteriously disappears. A week later, on February 27, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters returns, featuring Godzilla, King Kong, titans, and the titular mysterious organization.
A month later, on March 27, fans of For All Mankind can get excited for its fourth season. Before the second season even airs (April 3), Your Friends & Neighbors with Jon Hamm already got picked up for a third season. On April 15, check out Margo’s Got Money Troubles by renowned creator David E. Kelley starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Elle Fanning. Widow's Bay, a new mystery series about the haunted mayor of a small harbor town (played by Matthew Rhys), lands on Apple TV on April 29 and is one of the year's most anticipated shows.
The big highlights of the first half of the year are definitely Cape Fear and Lucky. The first is inspired by the 1991 film remake by Martin Scorsese, starring Javier Bardem, Patrick Wilson, and Amy Adams. The second is a miniseries featuring the charming Anya Taylor-Joy, telling the story of a girl haunted by bad luck and a dark past, with plenty of action and gripping moments.
Film-wise, look out for Eternity on February 13, where Elizabeth Olsen's character must choose which man to spend an eternity with in the afterlife. Fast-forward to year-end, and on November 20, Way of the Warrior Kid with Chris Pratt will premiere. He plays a decorated marine who finds out his nephew is being bullied at school and comes up with a special training program to help him.
What Else to Look Forward To?
That's not all. Besides the usual new season of the acclaimed show Slow Horses in the fall, we're also getting Criminal, based on the same-name comic series. Starring Charlie Hunnam, it might not only grab lots of viewers but also aim for some TV awards because the source material is top-notch. The mentioned sci-fi Silo should also return with season three this year. And just a heads-up, Apple has been working on a Neuromancer series for a while now. Its release this year isn't guaranteed, but it's not ruled out either.
In short, Apple TV is really stepping up, and with their subscription still at just 199 CZK a month, we think it's one of the best choices out there. And we haven't even mentioned that Sanderson is coming in the next few years...
