The latest movie from the beloved series will be released under Disney's direction.
The story is mainly set to focus on the son of the famous pirate and a new character, who we only know will be played by Margot Robbie. Whether Johnny Depp himself will return is still undecided.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who's been advocating for Depp's return to the film series, told Entertainment Weekly that the actor is willing to return to the role only if he likes the script. Depp last played Jack Sparrow in 2017 in Dead Men Tell No Tales. His career was put on hold following allegations from Amber Heard, which led him to take roles in less known, low-budget films.
Back in October 2025, Bruckheimer revealed that Disney developed two competing versions of the sixth installment, but only one made it to the final negotiations. The script is handled by Krysty Wilson-Cairns, known for her work on the film 1917, and she collaborated with filmmaker Taika Waititi on his upcoming Star Wars franchise film.
