Dust off your wigs and iconic accessories because the “Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special” is hitting Disney+ on March 24th.
In a roughly hour-long program, Miley Cyrus returns as her famous character, Miley Stewart. She heads back to the Malibu house, reunites with several familiar Disney Channel faces, and sings some of the most popular songs from the series that aired from 2006 to 2011. She admitted that she didn't want to modernize the character but keep her original charm—and returning to the project was also a personal nostalgia trip for her, Variety reports.
Music Segment
During filming, Cyrus appeared as Hannah Montana on a stage inspired by the show's opening credits. She rocked the iconic blonde hairstyle and bold outfit. Songs like “This Is the Life”, “The Climb”, and “The Best of Both Worlds” were performed for a small audience, and a brand-new song will also feature in the program.
Familiar Faces
The special will also feature Selena Gomez, who once guest-starred in the series. The surprise came thanks to Alex Cooper, known from the podcast “Call Her Daddy”, who also interviews Cyrus in the show.
Also appearing is Billy Ray Cyrus, who played the show's dad, Robby Ray. Together, they reminisce about the early days in the newly reconstructed Stewart family's living room. Miley's mom, Tish Cyrus, joins her to unlock memories in the iconic closet. Other actors like Emily Osment and Jason Earles haven't been confirmed yet, nor have potential appearances by stars like the Jonas Brothers or Dolly Parton.
Scenes and Vibes
For the special, the familiar Stewart house spaces have been rebuilt and will include authentic items from the past—costumes, fan letters, and memorabilia. Previews show Cyrus in the kitchen and during conversations in the living room.
Part of the filming included a convertible ride through Malibu, setting an emotional tone in the beginning. Cyrus later admitted realizing parallels between the series setting and her own life.
The creators paid attention to details reminiscent of the original series—including the classic “hair flip”, familiar Disney Channel “wand ID” moments, and signature musical transitions, so it looks like there's a lot to look forward to.
