Actress Jessie Buckley, who played the lead role in the movie Bride!, shared that acting helped her overcome an eating disorder and depression.

Actress Jessie Buckley, Oscar-nominated for the film Hamnet, openly admitted that acting helped her manage an eating disorder and depression during her teenage years.

In an interview for Desert Island Discs on BBC Radio 4, the actress explained that acting provided her with a space to process internal battles and gain control over her life, according to BBC.

Acting gave her a reason to continue and improve her mental health. “There were moments when I said to myself: ‘If I don't get better here, this music, this part of theater – I won't be able to do it and I probably won't survive.’ And that was the thing that turned it around in my head. I said to myself: ‘I don't want to sacrifice this, this is bigger than that,’ and I won,” she revealed.

Earlier this year, she revealed in an interview with Vogue that she was criticized for her appearance. “I think it was a young woman trying to discover her body and herself, as we all do. I tried to appear brave because I really wanted to sing and act and be part of this industry, and suddenly you had to be a certain type of person. And I wasn’t that and never will be. That's just not me,” the actress concluded.

Jessie also starred in the movie Bride!, where she played one of the main roles. The film is in theaters from March 5th. You can look forward to a stylish and dark romantic drama.

When a young woman (Jessie Buckley) comes to life, nothing goes as expected. She doesn't remember anything and instead of becoming a quiet, obedient wife, she turns into a wild and rebellious person. Together with Frank, she embarks on an escape through gangster-era Chicago of the 1930s. Jessie recently won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Oscar for her role in Hamnet.
