Your Profile Won't Die with You. Meta Has Patented AI to Manage the Profiles of Deceased Users

The company claims it's just a concept.

You might pass away, but your social media profile will keep posting on your behalf. This isn’t a Black Mirror episode; it's a new AI patent from Meta, as reported by Business Insider.

The company snagged a patent at the end of December describing how a large language model (LLM) can "simulate" someone's activity on social media, like by responding to content posted by real people.

"The language model can be used to simulate a user when they're not present in the social networking system, like when they're taking a longer break or if they’ve passed away," says the patent, authored by Meta's CTO, Andrew Bosworth.

The patent also mentions that these social networks adopt the language model, which they retrain using user-specific data based on interactions. This bot can then generate responses on behalf of the user and react to content.
