1. Maid

A single mother struggles with poverty, the threat of losing the roof over her head and the bureaucracy. To make a living, she starts working as a cleaner. In the Maid series, we see Margaret Quailley in one of the best performances of her career, doing the absolute most to take care of and raise her child.

An emotional, rough and well-played drama that will get under your skin. It's not for those with weak stomachs. However, if you long for an authentic and sad story, Maid will enchant you.

2. Tick, Tick... Boom

Andrew Garfield proved, once again, how exceptional of an actor he is. Lin Manuel Miranda (Hamilton) made his first film as a director and it was very successful. Although it has a a slower start and some songs don't captivate as much, the overall story is strong and emotional, so by the end you will be absolutely consumed by the film.

Without Garfield, it would be an average musical, as it is he, who carries the film on his shoulders. We must also applaud Alexandra Shipp and Vanessa Hudgens, for their performances.

3. Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf

The anime is, first and foremost, brutal. Much more than the show starring Henry Cavill, so much so, that you will see characters torn limb from limb. But anime genre suits the Witcher quite well. Witcher's first full-length animated feature focused on Vesemir, Geralt's mentor, the last sorcerer on Kaer Morhen. We see Vesemir as a child, his lifelong love, mentor Declan, and what happened before Geralt.

4. Beastars

Let's stay with anime for a while longer. Beastars story originates in Japan, and talks about animals with human characteristics. However, it is not BoJack Horseman. These animals are governed by their true instincts. Thus, herbivores struggle much more in the world than carnivores, who hunt them.

The main character is the wolf Legoshi, who does not hold out one evening and attacks the hare Haru. Instead of killing her, he falls in love with her. Anime shows sex, killing and fierce battles, all against the backdrop of high school life.

5. The Big Mouth

Even the 5th season of the popular animated series does not hold back on the inappropriate humor and original way to portray the emotions, desires and sexual tastes of teenagers. Big Mouth is funny, but it can make you think about how teens perceive today's world and its increasingly accessible sex life.

You laugh during every episode. In the 5th season, new emotional monsters will be introduced, such as hatred, which will make a mess in the story and in the characters' relationships.

6. The Mitchells vs. The Machines

The producers of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse collaborated with talented directors Michael Riand and Jeff Row. The result was an original and great-looking animated feature about a robot apocalypse, from which the whole world is to be saved by a not very idyllic Mitchell family.

Animated feature can boast about a unique type of animation. There is always something going on, with the creators adding various characters, explanations and funny moments to the picture. The story itself is nothing special, but its rendering, the voices of the characters and the visual treatment ensures enjoyment.

7. The Harder They Fall

Well-filmed western with a story that didn't offend, and with characters that seemed like a fresh breath of originality within the genre. The story focuses on a cowboy named Nat Love (Jonathan Majors). He has been hunting down the gang that killed his mother and father when he was only 10, his whole life.

The last one of the survivors is Rufus Buck, who is to rot in prison until the end of his life. However, when he gets out, Nat and his group, made up of the sheriff (Delroy Lindo), a former mistress (Zazie Beetz) and his other acquaintances, decide to kill him.

8. Pieces of a Woman

Vanessa Kirby plays a young mother-to-be, Martha, who is preparing for home birth together with her husband Sean (Shia LaBeouf). After a few short scenes, we get to their house, where Martha's frequency of contractions increases. However, instead of the doula that was supposed to lead her birth, a substitute arrives.

After a relatively fast birth, everyone exhales. The crying baby screams and pulls towards his mother. However, a few seconds later, he no longer breathes and the viewer is shocked by the sudden change in the on-screen events. The film is excellently framed, especially in the introduction, which will undoubtedly get under your skin.

Without revealing too much, Vanessa Kirby deserves an Oscar nomination for this feature.

9. Cobra Kai

One would think, that this is a typical guilty pleasure film, but Cobra Kai is actually a good show. At no point is it groundbreaking or technically stunning, but the way it handles the characters and the story, makes up for the lack of flare. This sequel to Karate Kid set in the present, shows old rivals Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence build their own karate dojo full of talented young men. The show has a great pace, fun twists and great fights. It's teen fun, enjoyable even for spectators who have not seen Karate Kid.

10. Summit of the Gods

This overlooked animated film deserves your attention, especially if you like rock climbing. The story follows a journalist, who is trying to track down a famous climber. He quickly discovers that the climber is about to attempt to climb a mountain, that no one has conquered before. The film follows the stories of both men, committed to their work, determined to overcome any obstacles.

Captivating visuals, exciting moments, emotional storylines. Thanks to all of this, you will get under the skin of the characters, leaving you impressed by the film finale. The film captivates you with its atmosphere and chilling shots so much, that you won't even realise not one word has been uttered in the past couple of minutes.
