Tom Hanks will play Lionel, an aging sports journalist whose dwindling passion for his craft is unexpectedly reignited by a minor league pitcher. This pitcher suffers a traumatic injury on the field when he's struck in the head by a hard-hit ball, known in baseball slang as a “comebacker”. After this brutal hit, the athlete begins to display unexpected behavior and speak in poetic phrases, which thanks to Lionel's articles, quickly becomes a national phenomenon.
While specific details about supporting characters are still top-secret, the confirmed participation of the music star sheds light on Tom Hanks' surprising appearance at the singer's concert in Australia earlier this year.
