VIDEO: Dune 3’s Going Darker

MOVIES & SERIES

A new teaser for the third installment of Dune has dropped, hinting at a darker twist in the story and changes in Paul Atreides' character. From the looks of it, the finale is set to be more intense and personal than the previous two films.

The creators just dropped the first shots from the upcoming movie yesterday and even treated fans to a teaser trailer. It reveals that Paul Atreides' story will take a darker turn in the third installment, writes Variety.

From a leader who gained power, he becomes a character facing the consequences of his own choices. The war he ignited continues to spread, and it's no longer just about the battle for Arrakis. His rule is proving to be something he can't fully control.

The trailer hints that the conflict is affecting the wider galaxy, and things are heating up. “The story picks up 12 years after the second movie. Paul Atreides rules as Emperor after starting a massive jihad but faces huge losses and a conspiracy involving the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood and the nation of Tleilaxu, aiming to overthrow him. This leads to a dark, psychological twist in his character's journey.”

A new villain is also being introduced. The character Scytale seems unsettling even from the brief clips. He'll be played by fan-favorite actor Robert Pattinson, who you might know from Twilight or Batman.

Familiar faces like Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem, Rebecca Ferguson, and Florence Pugh are back too. Fans can also look forward to Anya Taylor-Joy, who will portray Alia Atreides in the new film.

Director Denis Villeneuve returns behind the camera and confirmed it'll be his last film from the Dune universe. According to him, the first two movies form a complete narrative, and the third will work more as a standalone story with its own identity. The film hits theaters on December 18, 2026.
