The 'Inverted House' in Tbilisi will convince you that less is more.
Georgia has seen a boom in cool development projects recently, including some attractive residential homes designed by talented architects.
Today, let's check out a unique house in the Okhrokhana neighborhood of the capital, Tbilisi. It’s a creation by TIMM Architects, featuring Nino Chkhartishvili, Nino Grigolashvili, Giorgi Pataridze, Beka Gulva, and Nikoloz Lekveishvili.
Dubbed the “Inverted House,” this project is more than just a house – it’s about flipping the concept of living space, redefining what having a place of your own really means.
The project steers away from the typical suburban model of fences and high walls separating homes. Instead, it creates a protective perimeter combining light, privacy, and openness.
The architects flipped the house inward – all rooms and main spaces are oriented toward the courtyard, forming the heart of the entire residence. The attractive structure encircles the property, closing it off while everything points inward. This reversed approach offers a fresh take on what home means – a place where owners feel secure but also have room for relaxation and creativity.
The living room, kitchen with dining area, and entrance hall face the inner courtyard, creating an open, airy vibe. A pool hangs over the courtyard, providing a space for relaxation while connecting different levels of the house and offering stunning views. It blends the outdoor and indoor atmospheres seamlessly.
The interior is completely white, focusing on light and proportions that shape the overall vibe. A mix of natural and charred wood on the house's exterior adds not only beauty but also warmth and authenticity. This transition between natural materials and minimalist design is what gives the home its unique feel.
The “Inverted House” project proves that even in modern urban settings, you can create a space that promotes privacy, freedom, and a constant connection with nature – something many of us, including our editorial team, are seeking in life.
