How did a rap guy become a family-oriented man? Riri definitely has something to do with it.
The rapper appeared on the podcast Popcast, where he discussed his new album Don't Be Dumb, his first in eight years, his ventures into Hollywood, influence on rap fashion, and he also talked about family life with his partner Rihanna.
“Women change your whole life, especially when she’s your partner. Before the kids came, living with my partner opened my eyes,” Rocky shared.
The host pointed out to Rocky that he didn’t just choose any woman. The rapper replied that he’s aware of the special woman by his side. Another host mentioned that if someone had asked back in 2012 whether A$AP Rocky would be the happiest and most family-oriented person in rap, they probably wouldn’t have believed it.
“It was like we were on the same wavelength. We were born in the same year. My dad’s from her country. There are so many similarities, it’s just funny. We laugh about it a lot. She was always my friend, you know what I mean?” The rapper reminisced about how he and Rihanna always hung out and were there for each other.
What did his mom say about Rihanna?
“My mom used to say something like, ‘I know you like this girl you’re with now.’ I won’t name names. ‘But I want you with Riri.’ I’d say something like, ‘Mom, why do you keep saying that? That girl doesn’t even want me. Chill, mom. She’s just my friend.’”
However, the rapper's mom insisted that Rihanna was the one. “And moms know best. I’m grateful she came into my life then because I think I wasn’t ready for something like that anytime before. I don’t think she was either.”
Today, they have two sons, RZA and Riot Rose, and a daughter, Rocky Irish.
