For the second year in a row, we witnessed a scary accident as soon as the first round.
F1 fans still have vivid memories of last year's British Grand Prix first-round accident in which Max Verstappen experienced a 51G overload after colliding with Lewis Hamilton at the Copse corner. Today, something even more terrible happened on the same circuit.
Immediately after the start, Pierre Gasly was sandwiched between George Russell and Guanyu Zhou, followed by moments of horror. The Chinese pilot of Alfa Romeo slid headlong at high speed to the gravel area of the runway, where he made several somersaults and was subsequently thrown over the protective barriers. Long minutes followed with no information about Zhou's health, who was still wedged in his car.
