Netflix has announced that it will release at least one film each week during the summer of 2022. Some weeks, we will see even two or three new features. But not all will be worth your time. With a number of these films, we have no idea if they have potential at all, since Netflix has not released a single trailer for them.
However, we are looking forward to some of them either because of the actors who star in them or because the creators who shot them. Here are 10 feature films that have caught our attention and that could possibly turn out quite well.
1. The Takedown – May 6th
In the action film, actor Omar Sy (Lupin series) joins forces with his older friend, and the two police officers set out on a journey through France with the intention of uncovering the drug trade. Unexpectedly, however, a large criminal case emerges.
2. Operation Mincemeat – May 11th
This World War II war film will not be about big action scenes. It's not an action blockbuster, but rather a thriller drama. It captures the attempt of the Allies to deceive Hitler and his subordinates. They are trying to convince them that they will attack Greece and not Sicily. How did they want to deceive the Nazis? With the help of a corpse washed out by the sea.
An unusual and unforgettable World War II story was filmed by John Madden (Miss Sloane) and features Colin Firth (King's Speech), Matthew Macfadyen (known from the Succession series) and Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy from Harry Potter).
3. Hustle – June 8th
Adam Sandler's latest film from Netflix will not be one of his average comedies. In the drama Hustle, he will play a sport scout who is looking for talented basketball players. One day he encounters great talent, but the promising athlete is based abroad and it will be extremely difficult for him to get into the NBA.
4. Spiderhead – June 17th
Two prisoners build a strong relationship while facing their painful past. However, the prisoners are not in prison, but in a state-of-the-art facility. In the near future, the government allows prisoners to shorten their sentences by volunteering to test new drugs and medicines.
When one of the prisoners begins to receive medication that promotes love, he immediately begins to question his emotions and starts playing a dangerous game. The action thriller was directed by Joseph Kosinski (Oblivion, Tron: Legacy, Top Gun: Maverick) and features Chris Hemsworth, Miles Tiller and Jurnee Smollett.
5. The Sea Beast – July 8th
Chris Williams, a successful filmmaker of animated features (directed by Big Hero 6 and Moana), made a great-looking story about a girl who became friends with a sea monster. The biggest problem is that she did so on a ship of monster hunters. Can she convince others not to kill the animal? The Sea Beast presents itself with a nice teaser trailer, which sparks optimism about the director's quality filmography.
6. The Gray Man – July 22nd
The Gray Man is the most expensive film from Netflix yet. It reportedly cost Netflix $ 200 million. It was filmed by the Russo brothers, who previously directed Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. It is a spy action thriller taking place across several countries.
The story is based on Mark Greaney's 2009 novel. The main character is the so-called Gray Man aka Court Gentry, a former CIA agent and freelance assassin. He is played by Ryan Gosling (La La Land). In opposition to him, stands another agent and his former colleague Lloyd Hansen, played by Chris Evans (Captain America). The creators hope that the film will grow into a successful action series.
7. Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie – August 5th
The latest animated film about ninja turtles pits iconic ninjas against an alien threat. Someone who came from the future warns them about it. It will be more pleasing for younger viewer, but older viewers will be pleased to hear that the actor and producer Seth Rogen is preparing his own version of an animated film about ninja turtles, which should be rougher.
8. Day Shift – August 12th
Actor Jamie Foxx plays a hard-working father, who tries to ensure a stable life for his daughter. But his daily job is not to clean the pools, as everyone thinks. In fact, he kills vampires as a member of the International Union of Vampire Hunters. In addition to Foxx, Dave Franco, Snoop Dogg and Scott Adkins also star in the film. Film is a directorial debut of J. J. Parry.
9. Me Time – August 26th
Kevin Hart and Mark Wahlberg will play friends who are meeting after a long time to experience a quality weekend. They have had enough of family life and they want to have proper fun. However, as is often the case with such comedies, the whole thing goes unbelievably wrong and both friends experience a weekend they will never forget. In addition to them, Regina Hall and Jimmy O. Yang star in the comedy. Directed by John Hamburg (Why Him?).
10. Carter – this summer
We know almost nothing about this film, but it will come from South Korea and from creators who have experience producing action films. The plot focuses on a secret agent suffering from memory loss. To make matters worse, he has to take part in a very dangerous mission.
