10. Witcher

Henry Cavill is the perfect Geralt, and the plot is now more coherent and better handled than in Season 1. Pretty much everything has improved, from the visuals of tricks and fights, to the costumes and fantasy atmosphere. The creators added more characters and steered the story in an interesting direction. You will also enjoy the killing of monsters and the expansion of this great, albeit brutal and depressing fantasy world. The biggest remorse therefore remain changes in the story, which have significantly deviated from the book material.

9. Castlevania

The finale of the animated version of the famous game series did not turn out exactly as expected. The Netflix series ended prematurely, so the creators did not have time to close all the storylines and some seemed to disappear into thin air. However, the story as such had a sufficiently satisfactory ending. The rest of the series of the expected top notch quality.

The animation, the choreography of the fights, the excellent voice acting (actors voicing the characters), the design of the monsters and the relationships between the characters as well as the dialogues confirmed that the creators feel extremely comfortable in this fantasy environment full of death and blood and can create a wonderful atmosphere there. If you liked this year's Arcane, you'll love Castlevania too, so run to give it a chance. All four of the relatively short seasons are available on Netflix.

8. Rick and Morty

The animated series still cannot reach to the quality level of the first season, but it is still the best animated sci-fi series available today. Rick and Morty are still equally witty, and the creators can still be extremely original and creative not only in sci-fi ideas, but also with the humour. The fifth season was also strong thanks to the more emotional episodes depicting Rick's past.

7. Sex Education

This British comedy series is like "comfort food". You can turn it on at any time and it will always make you smile. The 3rd season is also full of sex-conscious teenagers struggling with their life problems, discovering their sexuality, and learning some great life lessons. Relationships are built and destroyed, but the creators do not forget to add the appropriate dose of humour and continually expand the storylines of our favourite characters.

We are pleased with the attention they gave Ruby, and we hope that they will give her even more space in the 4th season. And traditionally we have great Otis and Maeve, who have moved forward again. The third season also introduced excellent new characters and we were pleased with the developments in the relationship between Otis' mother and her partner Jakob. Sex Education is always the same thing, just with fun innovations.

6. Mare of Easttown

Detective Mare lives in a small American town, where only rarely happens something, that shakes the whole community. However, when a body of a dead teenager is found in a nearby river after a party in the woods, the investigator goes on a hunt for the killer.

Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet portrayed the annoyed but fair Mare. In the series, we see not only how she works a murder case, but also how she raises her teenage daughter, meets a potential partner and how she still thinks of her deceased son. The creators managed to create an engaging criminal plot with tense relations between the city's inhabitants, which should not missed.

5. What We Do in the Shadows

Vampires rule the world again this year. Nothing makes us laugh like this. The story continues to track four vampires living in the contemporary United States, trying to fit into society while finding meaning in their lives.

In addition, in the 3rd series, they have to cope with a surge of duties as they take the lead in the local vampire community. The story develops in an interesting direction, and it offers a few surprises and unexpected scenes. If you like to watch original characters and you like to laugh, you will fall in love with this series.

4. Ted Lasso

And if you don't like vampires, then managers, coaches and football team players from the second highest English competition may. The second series of Ted Lasso perfectly follows the storylines of the first. Coach Ted Lasso is still unforgettable, kind and always fills the room, but the other characters are also evolving in an interesting way, especially Nate and his growing ego which will cause more than one problem. Ted Lasso is still the most positive, most enjoyable and excellently played series that will make your soul and heart dance. Nothing puts us in a better mood than half an hour with these heartfelt figures.

3. Invincible

The animated superhero series from Amazon Prime Videos was based on a successful comic. They were able to get the most out of the material and you will be amazed by multiple aspects of the story, animation and plot twists. The heroes are not one-sidedly good here. They philosophise about the meaning of their mission and abilities, and are far from immortal.

You will at times be afraid for their lives when the villains break half the bones in their bodies as they ask for help with tears in their eyes. Invincible also has a wonderful animation and something is constantly moving on the screen. Add to that the occasional humour, great, mature dialogues, fantastic story and top work of the actors who gave the animated characters the necessary credibility, and you've discovered the big series surprise of this year.

2. Succession

The whole series was one big endless acting gala concert in the business environment of media conglomerates. We were surprised by the twists and turns, we were pleased with the new actors and characters (Adrien Brody appears in one episode) and we laughed a few times. Succession is the best TV drama of 2021.

1. Arcane

The French animated studio Fortiche created an innovative animated series. It abounds with an adult, serious story, not afraid to kill the main characters while creating strong, authentic and emotional relationships between them.

10 najlepších seriálov roka 2021

Arcane has fantastic animation that Hollywood animated films can only dream of. The soundtrack fits perfectly into the series, and of course the top performance of the actors, thanks to which you will at times forget, that you are watching animated characters. Arcane has an excellent pace and it perfectly wraps you in its fantasy world with all its problematic characters.

Even the main "villain" will eventually grow on you, once you realise that he has his motives and feelings. And even though it's a series based on the League of Legends game world, it shouldn't stop you from watching, if you don't know anything about it. We've never played LoL either.

Bonus: Squid Game

Squid Game is a highly-acclaimed South Korean series. It became the most watched series in the entire history of Netflix and everyone talked about it. the hype is well deserved, as it had an original concept, great characters and exciting episodes. Because of that, it deserves this bonus spot.
