HBO has unveiled the first full trailer for the most anticipated series project of the moment. This is a new, massive adaptation of the Harry Potter books.
While the original estimates suggested a launch in 2027, the new trailer confirmed that the first series titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone will hit HBO Max by Christmas 2026.
This massive project, according to BBC, is planned to span ten years, during which the creators aim to cover all seven of J.K. Rowling's books in detail. Warner Bros Discovery's head of streaming, JB Perrette, called it the biggest streaming event in the platform's history in an interview with The Guardian.
The two-minute preview backs up promises of deeper loyalty to the book series. Besides visual staples like the Dursley’s house and the Hogwarts Express, viewers can look forward to scenes that didn’t make it into the famous movies. We’ll see Harry at a Muggle school facing his cousin Dudley and his journey with Hagrid on the London Underground.
Global interest in the franchise also brings a notably dark side. The Guardian highlights racist attacks and death threats directed at actor Paapa Essiedu, cast as Professor Snape. Consequently, HBO had to implement strict security measures on set, as reported by BBC.
The project is also under fire for the involvement of J.K. Rowling as an executive producer. While some of the public calls for a boycott due to her views on transgender people, HBO defends the situation, explaining that her personal or political stances don’t impact the series in any way, according to The Guardian.
