A project is underway in collaboration with director Peter Jackson, focusing on parts of Tolkien's story that haven't been filmed yet.
Warner Bros. is working on a new movie from the world of The Lord of the Rings, teaming up with American host Stephen Colbert, a huge fan of J. R. R. Tolkien's works.
He's working on the project with his son, and the announcement came via the studio's official social media, as reported by Variety.
Peter Jackson, the director of the original trilogy, is also collaborating on the film’s development. He introduced the news in a video, where he also mentioned the upcoming film “The Hunt for Gollum”.
Later, Colbert was described as his partner in expanding the world of Middle-earth. Jackson claims the new project will focus on parts of The Fellowship of the Ring that weren't included in the previous film adaptations.
These are mainly the opening chapters following the hobbits' journey before the main events of the story. These lesser-known passages have long fascinated Colbert and inspired him to develop them into a standalone film.
The project continues the success of the original trilogy, which ranks among the most acclaimed fantasy series in cinematic history. Jackson's films have won numerous awards and significantly influenced the modern portrayal of the fantasy genre.
Although specific plot details haven't been revealed yet, it's expected that the new film will offer a deeper look into well-known events and expand the narrative world with unexplored moments from Middle-earth.
