The new release in American cinemas hit earnings of $80.5 million (around 70 million euros) and snagged another $60 million (about 52 million euros) from abroad. The film is based on the novel by Andy Weir, the author of "The Martian."
Worldwide, the film made over $140.9 million during its opening weekend. While "Oppenheimer" is still leading, "Last Chance" became the most successful debut of the year for Amazon MGM Studios. In Slovakia, the film was watched by over 20,000 viewers, with earnings exceeding 155,000 euros.
The film hit theaters on March 19 and attracts viewers not just with a strong storyline but also with its star-studded cast. Ryan Gosling takes the lead role as a scientist who wakes up on a spaceship with partial amnesia.
