The story mixes suspense, humor, and humanity. Reviews talk about a thrilling, visually impressive, and yet emotional story that also manages to surprise with humor.

Despite the serious theme of the planet's demise, the film brings lightness and fun, making it accessible to a wide audience. In an interview with the BBC, Gosling revealed that he's fascinated by space and its mysteries, and he tried to infuse the film with both drama and humor.

“Space can be hard to understand, but it's important to make it accessible so that it feels realistic, while also showing that funny things happen even in dramatic situations,” he said in the interview.

The actor hopes the film is something families can watch together, saying it “provides an opportunity to stray from the dystopian stories that have been overwhelming us for the past decade”.
