The third Dune has debuted its first footage. The film hits theaters on December 17, 2026.
Right after his last film totally bombed at this year's Oscars, Chalamet is back with another shot at becoming a legendary actor. Warner Bros. has kicked off a campaign for the third Dune, the finale of the sci-fi trilogy directed by Denis Villeneuve, based on Frank Herbert's books.
Dune: Part Three is said to be based on the book Dune: Messiah. Unlike the first two movies, which were pretty faithful adaptations of the first book, the director supposedly isn't sticking as closely to the source material for this final film. Mainly because the book isn't super popular among readers and wouldn't really work for a film. The most crucial part of the book, the dark transformation of main character Paul Atreides into basically a cosmic Adolf Hitler, will naturally still be included. This is backed up by the unofficial synopsis of the movie, which was just updated with the first teaser trailer.
“The story continues 12 years after the second installment. Paul Atreides now rules as emperor after starting a massive jihad but is facing huge losses and a conspiracy involving the Bene Gesserit sisterhood and the Tleilaxu nation, aiming to overthrow him. This leads to a dark, psychological twist in the storyline of the main character.”
