Want to Avoid Crowded Vacation Spots? Don't Visit These Places in 2026

A list of places for 2026 featuring eight destinations with overwhelming tourism.

Not all travel rankings recommend places tourists should visit. Some, on the contrary, highlight destinations currently facing too many visitors or environmental issues.

The annual Fodor’s No List 2026 points out areas where tourism needs to be more responsible and sustainable.

The goal of this list isn’t to discourage travel but to highlight the impacts of mass tourism. According to the portal, destinations are listed where the growing number of visitors puts pressure on local communities, nature, or infrastructure.

The list includes a total of eight destinations from different parts of the world. One of the destinations is Antarctica, where the number of tourists is rapidly increasing. In the 2023 to 2024 season, about 120,000 people visited, and by 2033 this number could double.

The list also includes Glacier National Park in Montana, USA. The park is warming almost twice as fast as the global average, and from about 150 glaciers at the start of the 20th century, only 27 remain today.

Other destinations include Isola Sacra in Italy, where a planned port for large cruise ships faces opposition from locals and environmental groups. The ranking indicates that even the most popular tourist spots may need a break from mass tourism.
