Pilots at the German airline Lufthansa have kicked off a two-day strike that could seriously disrupt air travel.
Pilots at the German airline Lufthansa kicked off a two-day strike on Thursday morning. Because of this, there are expectations of flight cancellations, especially at major airports like Munich Airport and Frankfurt Airport.
Lufthansa, however, stated that at least half of the planned flights will still take place during the strike. About 60% of long-haul flights might take off.
The pilots' union, Vereinigung Cockpit, claims this strike will be smaller than the one last month. According to union leader Andreas Pinheiro, about 300 flights might be canceled daily. During the February strike, Lufthansa canceled approximately 800 flights.
The reason for the strike is straightforward — the pilots haven't been able to reach an agreement with Lufthansa's management on salaries and working conditions.
