Meta says it's just a concept for now.
You might kick the bucket, but your social media profile can keep on posting like you never left. Nope, it’s not an episode of Black Mirror—it’s actually a new AI patent by Meta, as reported by Business Insider.
At the end of December, the company snagged a patent that explains how a large language model (LLM) can “simulate” a person’s activity on social networks, like reacting to stuff posted by actual people.
“The language model can be used to simulate a user when they’re not around on social media, for example, if they're taking a long break or if they're deceased,” says the patent, authored by Meta’s tech head Andrew Bosworth.
It also mentions that social networks can use the language model, retrained with user-specific data based on their interactions. Then, this bot can generate replies on behalf of the user and interact with content.
