The year 2026 will delight many book lovers.

We can already say that this year we won’t be short of book stories coming to life on screen. We've picked some adaptations we can't wait for. Thrilling psychological thrillers, feel-good romantic comedies, epic sci-fi, or touching historical dramas—this year’s adaptations have it all. Which one are you most excited about?

The Netflix adaptation quickly became a hit on the platform. If you enjoy feel-good romantic comedies, this film and book are perfect for you.

Reminders of Him (Colleen Hoover)

Colleen Hoover gained wider public recognition thanks to the romantic film It Ends with Us with Blake Lively, based on her book of the same name.

The book Reminders of Him tells the story of Kenna Rowan, who just got out of prison. She longs to meet her five-year-old daughter, whom she hasn’t been in contact with. Everyone in her daughter's life tries to prevent this, but Kenna is determined to fight. The only person who hasn’t entirely given up on her is Ledger Ward, the local bar owner and an important figure in her daughter's life.

Reminders of Him Book

Hamnet (Maggie O'Farrell)

  • Adaptation: Hamnet (in cinemas from January 22)

The author created a portrait of the son of the famous William Shakespeare, about whom history knows very little. The boy's tragic story bears the name of one of the most famous works, Hamlet (in Elizabethan times, these names were identical). The novel tells Shakespeare's story from the perspective of his wife and children during a time when both parents were struck by their son’s death.

The film adaptation is directed by Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao, with Paul Mescal in the lead role.

Verity (Colleen Hoover)

  • Adaptation: Verity (U.S. premiere October 2, 2026)

Verity Crawford is a successful author. After a severe car accident, she couldn't finish her anticipated book series. The publisher asks an unknown author, Lowen, to finish the job for her. Lowen comes to her house to go through her notes and material, hoping it helps her write. Unintentionally, she discovers Verity's secret biography, revealing her secrets, shocking confessions, and memories. She gets to know a much darker character than found in Verity’s books.

The film adaptation doesn't have a confirmed release date in Slovakia, but we can't wait to see it. Starring Dakota Johnson, Anne Hathaway, and Josh Hartnett.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (Suzanne Collins)

  • Adaptation: The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (in cinemas from November 19)

The book is set 24 years before the events of the first Hunger Games book and focuses on Haymitch, who participates in the Games. This edition is distinguished by having double the number of participants. The book offers a deeper look at Haymitch's past, his experiences in the Games, and how he became the winner. It also features other characters like Maysilee Donner or future President Snow.

Book The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes

Wuthering Heights (Emily Brontë)

  • Adaptation: Wuthering Heights (in cinemas from February 12)

The story begins when a new tenant, Mr. Lockwood, gets to know the Heathcliff family, the stern and enigmatic owners of Wuthering Heights. Curious about their past, Mr. Lockwood listens to the story from a local maid who was present during many crucial events.

The maid recounts the story of Heathcliff, an orphan taken in by the Earnshaw family. He forms a deep, passionate bond with their daughter Catherine, but due to social disparities and ambitions, she marries someone else. Heathcliff, broken and humiliated, leaves and returns years later, wealthy and vengeful, to destroy the lives of those who wronged him.

The eagerly awaited film adaptation stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi. The trailer suggests we have much to look forward to.

Wuthering Heights Book

Project Hail Mary (Andy Weir)

Another of Andy Weir's books is coming to the big screen in March. Ryland is the last surviving astronaut of a space mission—he doesn’t remember the mission details or even his own name. If he fails, it will mean the end of humanity and Earth.

The epic film adaptation stars Ryan Gosling in the lead role.

Project Hail Mary Book

The Magician's Nephew (C.S. Lewis)

  • Adaptation: Narnia: The Magician's Nephew (in cinemas in November, on Netflix in December)

The Magician’s Nephew is one of the books in C.S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia series. It serves as a prequel to the first two books, set in the magical world of Narnia. Digory and his friend Polly Plummer accidentally travel to different worlds using magic created by Digory's uncle, the magician Andrew.

Their first stop is a world where they find an unknown land, later named Narnia. It's an empty world at its beginning. Unwittingly, they awaken Queen Jadis, who had killed all living things long ago.

The film adaptation is currently in production, with director Greta Gerwig at the helm. Starring Emma Mackey, Daniel Craig, and Meryl Streep.

Suddenly, she gets an idea: start an OnlyFans. Seemingly controversial topics are tackled with humor. This book is ideal for fans of coming-of-age stories.

Dune Messiah by Frank Herbert is the second installment in the iconic science fiction saga. The story follows Paul Atreides already as the ruler of the universe, facing the consequences of his rise to power. From hero, he becomes a lonely ruler, pressured by prophecies, political intrigues, and guilt for the bloody war fought in his name. The story focuses more on internal conflicts, moral dilemmas, and the price of messianism. It’s a darker, more philosophical continuation that questions the idea of a savior as an unequivocal hero.

We included an adaptation that premiered just before the end of last year and instantly became a hit, still showing in cinemas. The Housemaid is a psychological thriller full of twists that you just can’t put down. Millie takes a job as a maid in the luxurious home of the Winchesters. At first, everything seems perfect, but she starts noticing the strange behavior of the lady of the house and the tension among family members. Millie finds herself tangled in a web of lies, manipulation, and secrets that threaten her safety. The story reveals that nothing is as it seems.

Five-Star Weekend (Elin Hilderbrand)

You might remember the popular Netflix mini-series The Perfect Couple that dominated streaming in 2024. Another book by author Elin Hilderbrand is getting a series adaptation—we expect it this year, though it doesn’t have a confirmed release date. Jennifer Garner leads the cast.

The protagonist is Hollis Shaw, whose idyllic world collapses after her husband’s sudden death in a car accident. Hollis decides to organize a “five-star weekend” on Nantucket Island, inviting four women from different periods of her life to help her find joy again. Their weekend together surfaces hidden wounds, secrets, and personal struggles each one carries. The book is about friendship, love, self-discovery, and how our relationships and past shape us.
