A new study has revealed the best sexual position for heterosexual women to achieve orgasm. The study by the private gynaecological clinic New H Medical in New York was carried out using an ultrasound scanner, with researchers examining a volunteer couple during sex in five favourite positions for 10 minutes. The goal was to compare blood flow through the clitoris before and after intercourse in each of the positions.

"The alleged benefits of various coital positions are described in many magazines, books and public forums. However, there is little scientific research that evaluates the connection between different positions and their ability to induce a female orgasm," said doctor Kimberley Lovie, who led the study, for the Independent newspaper.

The scientific team found that the most effective way to achieve a female orgasm is the missionary position with a pillow placed under the pelvis, which, according to the scientists, allows the woman to adjust the amount of contact and pressure on the clitoris and increase the depth of penetration.

Pillows sold for this purpose, often referred to by researchers as "sex pillows" or "positioning pillows," are usually firm and wedge-shaped to provide a more accurate and consistent pelvic angle than regular pillows.

They identified the position "from behind" as the least effective, as it creates the least amount of direct contact with the clitoris and leads to a negligible increase in blood flow compared to face-to-face positions.

However, researchers emphasise that every woman reacts differently to stimulation in different sexual positions. They hope that the findings will help patients with sexual dysfunctions.
