Elon Musk is buying the social media site Twitter, informs CNBC and Yahoo Finance. On Monday, Twitter's board of directors stated that they have accepted Musk's purchase offer worth 44 billion US Dollars (40.95 billion Euros).
The Tesla CEO and world's richest man has offered 54.20 USD in cash per share. After complete takeover, Musk wants to transform Twitter as a private company.
The announcement ended a weeks-long speculations about the future of Twitter which started after the revelation that Musk has acquired a huge share of the company, becoming its prime shareholder. After finalization of the transaction, Twitter will become a privately owned company.
Musk wrote on the social media site that he hopes even his greatest critics will remain on Twitter, since it defines freedom of speech.
