Zelenskyy spoke out: Ukrainian musicians wear bulletproof vests instead of tuxedos

Biggest surprise of the evening was the speech of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He asked for support for his country and called on musicians to talk about the fate of Ukraine fighting the Russian invasion.

"The war. What could be bigger contrast to music? The silence of destroyed cities and murdered people," said Zelenskyy in his pre-recorded video. "Our loved ones don't know if we'll be together again. The war will not allow us to choose who will survive and who will remain in eternal silence. "

"Our musicians wear bulletproof vests instead of tuxedos. They sing to the injured in hospitals and to those who cannot hear them. Music will find its way" said the Ukrainian leader.

"Fill the silence with your music. Fill the silence today, tell our story. Tell the truth about the war on your social media, on television, support us as much as you can, just, do not be quiet. And then peace will come to our cities," said Zelenskyy.

After Zelenskyy's speech, the American singer John Legend performed his song Free, joined on stage by Ukrainian musicians Siuzanna Iglidan and Mika Newton, and the poet Ľuba Jakymčuk.
