The World of The Lord of the Rings is Getting a New Movie. Peter Jackson is Onboard

MOVIES & SERIES

A new project is in the works with director Peter Jackson, focusing on previously unfilmed parts of Tolkien's story.

Warner Bros. is gearing up for a new film set in the Lord of the Rings universe, and they’re teaming up with American host Stephen Colbert—a huge fan of J. R. R. Tolkien’s work. Colbert is working on the project alongside his son. The announcement was made via the studio’s official social media, as reported by Variety.

Peter Jackson, the director of the original trilogy, is also collaborating on the film. He introduced the new project in a video, where he also mentioned the upcoming film The Hunt for Gollum.

Jackson called Colbert his partner in expanding the world of Middle-earth. He said the new project aims to focus on parts of the book The Fellowship of the Ring that didn’t make it into the previous film adaptation.

Specifically, the film will explore the early chapters following the hobbits’ journey before the main events of the story. These lesser-known passages have long fascinated Colbert, inspiring him to develop them into a standalone film.

The project continues the success of the original trilogy, which is one of the most acclaimed fantasy series in film history. Jackson’s films have earned numerous awards and have significantly impacted modern fantasy cinema.

Although specific plot details haven’t been released yet, the new film is expected to provide a deeper dive into familiar events and expand the narrative world with previously unexplored moments from Middle-earth.
