The World Runs for Spinal Cord Research: Wings for Life World Run Returns to the Czech Republic

SPORT

On Sunday, May 10th, the 13th annual Wings for Life World Run charity event, organized by Red Bull, will take place.

Participants in the charity run will be racing to support spinal cord injury research. This year, there will be eight organized runs in the Czech Republic.

The race is organized by the Wings for Life foundation, founded in 2004 by Dietrich Mateschitz (the founder of Red Bull) and motocross rider Heinz Kinigadner.

Czech cities are joining in

Wings for Life World Run is different from regular races because it doesn't have a fixed finish line. Thirty minutes after the start, the Catcher Car hits the road, gradually speeding up and catching up with participants. Once it overtakes you, your race is over. This way, professional athletes and casual runners can start together, each running as far as they can.

In the Czech Republic, the race starts at 1:00 PM, and you can run in Prague at Královská obora and on Bruselská cesta, in Hluboká nad Vltavou, at the Základna area in Jablonec nad Nisou, at the Komec area in Brno, in Šimkovy sady in Hradec Králové, by the Velký Bolevecký pond in Plzeň, at Komenského sady in Ostrava, and by the Kamenný most in Písek.

Last year's event saw over 310,000 participants worldwide, raising more than 8.6 million euros (over 210 million Czech crowns) for spinal cord research. This year’s entry fee is 18 euros (about 440 CZK), all of which goes directly to research. You can register at wingsforlifeworldrun.com.
