Harry Styles Speaks About Liam Payne's Passing for the First Time

He admitted that Liam's tragic death in October 2024 deeply affected him and made him reflect on his own life.

Harry Styles is dropping a new album, Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally, and as usual, he's doing the media rounds to promote it. These often include more personal questions. Recently, he was a guest on the Apple Music podcast, where he openly talked about the passing of Liam Payne, his former colleague from One Direction.

Harry discussed (at 20:05) how Payne's death in October 2024 impacted him and made him reflect on his own life. “It’s so hard to lose a friend. It’s hard to lose any friend, but it’s even harder to lose someone who’s so much like you in many ways,” he said.

He had the kindest heart and always wanted to be a great person. It was a very powerful moment for me because I then looked at my own life and asked myself: ‘What do I really want to do with my life? How do I want to live it?’ I think the best way to honor friends who pass away is to live your life to the fullest,” he added.

He also talked about public expectations regarding his response. He said it was challenging to admit that other people "owned a part" of his grief, and he was aware that they expected an answer, or else his grief might be questioned.

Liam Payne tragically died on October 16, 2024, at the age of 31 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. According to available information, he fell from the balcony of a hotel room on the third floor of the CasaSur hotel. An autopsy confirmed that the cause of death was multiple severe injuries sustained from the fall.
