Pokémon Go Has a PokéStop on Epstein's Island. Players Don't Understand How It Got There

OTHER

Pokémon Go is back in the spotlight. This time, it's for a controversial in-game stop that appeared on the infamous Little Saint James Island, which is associated with the Jeffrey Epstein case.

Pokémon had a massive boom in 2016, and even though part of the hype naturally faded over the years, the game still has an active community. Even after a decade, Niantic's game is still up and getting updates. Players recently noticed a detail that caught their attention and raised several questions, writes Forbes.

There was a PokéStop on the map named "Sun Dial," located on Little Saint James Island in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Normally, this wouldn't be odd, except it’s a place long associated with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. We explain the whole Jeffrey Epstein case here.

According to available info, this PokéStop made its way into the game around 2020 to 2021. The stop was linked to a large sundial that actually exists on the island. This sundial had even appeared in past drone footage. Though only regular Pokémon showed up there in the game and nothing special, the existence of a PokéStop at such a location surprised many, reports Unilad.

A conversation kicked off on social media right away. Some were asking who could have added such a stop, given the rules around its approval process. Others pointed out that there are ways to cheat the game and "move" virtually anywhere in the world. Meanwhile, Niantic confirmed that the stop has been removed from the system.
