The actor revealed that while working on the new sci-fi film Project Hail Mary, his two daughters helped him out. During filming, they even recorded the alien character’s lines to make his reactions more natural.
While filming the new movie Project Hail Mary (known in Czech as Spasitel), Ryan Gosling didn't just rely on the film crew. He also got his two daughters involved in the process, helping him with scenes involving the alien character named Rocky, reports Unilad.
The actor revealed that during filming, he had an earpiece in, and his two daughters, eleven-year-old Esmeralda and nine-year-old Amada, would sometimes read him the lines that Rocky was supposed to say in the film.
“Sometimes when I was working and needed to change something, my kids would come in, and I’d have an earpiece, and they’d speak for Rocky so I could talk to them as Rocky,” the actor shared.
According to Ryan, this allowed him to react more naturally, as if he were really having a conversation with a scene partner. Although the final alien voice belongs to actor James Ortiz, some reactions that viewers will see in the film were thanks to his two daughters, reports People.
The actor also revealed that the girls even provided feedback on some scenes in the film, as they saw multiple versions. One time, during costume trials, his daughter told him he looked smarter with glasses, which ultimately made it into the film. “When I was trying on clothes for the character and my daughter came in, she said, ‘You look smart in glasses.’” The actor replied, “I need to look smart in this, so thank you.”
In the sci-fi flick, Gosling plays a science teacher who travels to space to help save Earth. The film is based on the novel by Andy Weir, the author of The Martian. It hits theaters on March 19.
