CONFIRMED! Top Czech MMA Fighter Jiří Procházka to Fight for UFC Championship Again

SPORT

The most successful Czech MMA fighter, Jiří Procházka, will compete for the light heavyweight title on April 11 at UFC 327 in Miami. His opponent will be New Zealander Carlos Ulberg.

This will be the main event of the tournament for the famous organization. The 33-year-old native of Hostěradice, currently ranked number two in the UFC world rankings in his weight category, will have his ninth fight in the UFC this April. So far, his record is six wins and two losses.

Will he bring the title back to the Czech Republic?

Carlos Ulberg is currently ranked third, right behind Procházka. They were supposed to fight last year at a tournament in Perth, Australia, but it didn't happen. Up until now, the number one in the rankings was Brazilian Alex Pereira, who is now moving up to compete among heavyweight fighters, which is why Procházka will face Ulberg.

UFC announced the pair in an Instagram post:

The Czech fighter first won the champion's belt in June 2022 at UFC 275, defeating Glover Teixeira. Since then, he's contended for the title twice more, both times losing to Alex Pereira. Ulberg will fight for the championship title for the first time in his career.

“Ulberg is a great fighter. He's very talented, has a good kickboxing base, is fast, and has excellent footwork,” says Sport.cz about what Procházka said about his opponent a few months ago.

As if Jiří Procházka didn't have enough pivotal moments in his life at once, his daughter is also due to be born on April 13. So, it's possible he'll be celebrating both professionally and personally, reports Sport.cz. Last year, the fighter also successfully completed his studies at university.
