Obama Comments on Racist AI Video Posted by Trump, Calls for Kindness

POLITICS

A few days ago, a racist video that appeared on Donald Trump's profile shook the internet. It has since been deleted, but it left a significant mark.

After we told you in a previous article about the release and subsequent deletion of a racist AI video on former U.S. President Donald Trump’s account, former President Barack Obama has directly addressed the incident for the first time. In an interview on Brian Tyler Cohen's podcast, he criticized the current political culture.

Between “Fake Outrage” and a Staff Error

Reactions from Donald Trump’s camp developed rapidly over a few days, but lacked an apology. The White House initially dismissed the criticism as “fake outrage.” The post was then deleted, explained as a mistake by an unnamed staff member. Trump confirmed no one was fired over the incident and refused to apologize, claiming he “didn’t make a mistake.”

While Trump refused to apologize, Obama sees the problem as much deeper than just one offensive clip. “It’s important to realize that most Americans find this behavior deeply troubling,” the former president stated in response to current events. He added that such gestures attract attention and create distractions from the real situation.

Loss of Decorum and Respect

In the interview, Obama emphasized that the digital space, which used to at least follow basic rules of decency, has turned into an uncontrolled arena lacking self-reflection.

According to him, the sense of “propriety and respect for the office,” once felt by public officials, has disappeared. “It seems that those who once felt the need for some decorum no longer feel any shame,” the former president added on the podcast. He later described the situation on the internet and on TV as a “clown show.”
