The most important hair styling rule for this year? Be natural! With healthy and well-groomed hair, you can look like a goddess even in an ordinary t-shirt and jeans. We asked leading hairstylist Nikolas Tichý what the hair trends of the 2022 season are. He himself is a big supporter of the natural look, pleased that it is at the peak of popularity today, be it about colours, cuts or styling.

"Platinum blonde is slowly falling in trendiness. The most requested cut that my customers wanted from me this year was definitely the bob cut, and when it comes to styling, beach waves win. Perm is becoming popular among men, I haven't registered it with women, thank God," he laughs, alluding to its harmful effects.

Nikolas Tichý is a leading hair stylist and regularly prepares hairstyles for photo shoots for magazines and advertisements. Brand Estée Lauder "booked" him as the main hairstylist for their campaign.

He is a supporter of the claim that rather than trends, his customers should follow what suits them. "Hair should look like as if the woman was born with it. When something doesn't suit the client, I tell her. Just because, for example, bangs are trendy, it doesn't mean that if she doesn't have them, she won't be modern," he adds.

According to Nikolas Tichý, this year we are witnessing very simple and natural hairstyles that are a testament to our natural selves. You can hardly go wrong with them. If you want a change, you will find several styles with which you just need to go to your hairdresser, in the article below.

1. Bob cut

Bob cut can be very sexy, but also classy. This is a very undemanding haircut suitable for all age groups. It will especially please you if you have fine hair. Victoria Beckham is the synonym for this geometric cut, it is also popular with Selena Gomez and Kourtney Kardashian Barker.

Tichý says that the type of bob cut depends on the shape of the face. "It can be cup up to chin level, longer or shorter. However, it is necessary to adapt to different types of face, for a rounder one, I would go for an elongated bob cut, and vice versa, if someone has a narrow face, I would choose a shorter length," he told Refresher.

2. Modern shag

Less like a rock star, more like a Parisian. In the 1970s, the modern shag was a popular hairstyle for rock and roll stars. However, today's one is much more feminine, looks sexy and rebellious. The secret to the popularity of this hairstyle lies in its versatility – it looks good no matter what type of hair you have.

At the same time, it perfectly balances the features of your face. You can create a modern shag using a gradual cut and gentle layering of waves. Cindy Crawford and her daughter Kaia Gerber love it, and so does Taylor Swift.

Modern shag looks deliberately "shaggy", and according to Nikolas Tichý, imperfection is exactly what is worn today. "The more imperfect it is, the more modern and beautiful it is. However, this does not mean that it is easy to create such a hairstyle. There is only a very fine line between a well-cut shag and a badly cut shag. You have to pick it up in detail," he says.

3. Curtain bangs

"Curtain bangs, which are a bit conspicuous and were also popular in the 60s and 70s, are back," says Tichý. The voluminous bangs framing the face drove Jennifer Lopez, Dakota Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen crazy, but you can also see it in the Stewardess series on Kaley Cuoco portraying the character Cassie. Actress Millie Bobby Brown also chose it for the premiere of Stranger Things, and TikTok's Charli D'Amelio is currently posing with the hairstyle on her Instagram.

4. Wolf cut

The Wolf cut was popularized by David Bowie in the 1970s and is now loved by Gen Z. At first glance, it may seem that it resembles a modern shag, but this hairstyle is basically a combination of the 1970s and 1980s transformed into a modern look.

Specific is also the denser and mostly curly look of the bangs. This hairstyle breaks gender norms and calls for individuality. In addition to Miley Cyrus and Billie Eilish, the Filipino influencer Bretman Rock also likes the cut.

5. Beach waves

The trend favours simplicity. Once upon a time, we couldn't even imagine that we would go to a ball or a wedding with loose hair and without a properly combed bun. "Some clients still insist that when they go to the hairdresser, they want it to be absolutely evident They are sorry to pay for something that seems like they were born with it. They tend to be more pronounced, but at the moment it is receding a bit," says Tichý.

Beach waves are even said to be ahead of Hollywood waves, which look more "groomed". The beach ones are more modern today precisely because of their simplicity and casualness. They are suitable for a social event as well as for a normal day at work.

6. Straight, long and healthy hair

"It's the complete opposite of what I'm doing at the moment, as most clients want beach waves this season, but I generally like long, dark, straight hair that's flat-ironed to a shine. Let's note, for example, Kim Kardashian and Naomi Campbell, who follow in the footsteps of Cher from the 70s," the hairstylist told Refresher.

Both stars have the perfect hair texture and color for this styling. Kim appeared several times in straight and simply ironed hair on the red carpet. "Less is sometimes more," explains Nikolas Tichý, adding that modern hair is healthy hair. If you want to shine, you don't need much, just shiny hair and pretty ends.

7. Balayage

Once upon a time, platinum blonde or fiery red hair and a uniform colour over the entire surface of your mane were popular. Then, ombré made a big boom, you could easily see a clear transition from dark to a paler, mostly blonde colour. According to Nikolas Tichý, natural colours are now worn without heavy reflections, and women desire very subtle, almost invisible highlights.

Balayage creates a natural tint that looks fantastic on blonde, red, or dark hair. It was loved by Khloe Kardashian or Margot Robbie and is currently a viral hit that has replaced classic and outdated forms of coloring.

Nikolas Tichý says that not everyone likes everything. "With balayage, but also coloring in general, you always have to distinguish whether I have a warm skin tone or a cold skin tone. For example, I am a cold shade, so a warm blonde would not suit me, but rather a silvery, ashy one. A lot of people want this shade, even if they have warmer skin tones, but it doesn't suit them at all – and they don't know why.”

8. Sun kissed efect

Your hair color changes with the seasons. In the winter, hair tends to darken, and in the summer you can enjoy hair naturally enhanced by the sun's rays. This hairstyle made it to the salons and became the top trend of this year. The effect of "sun-kissed" hair is basically a softer version of balayage. "Today, on magazine shoots, many stylists give me an assignment like: make it look like it hasn't been touched by a hairdresser. This applies not only to the styling itself, but also to the coloring," says Nikolas Tichý.

The hair has a uniform basic color all over the head with a touch of strands of a lighter shade of a similar color palette. The sun kissed effect is perhaps the most natural coloring method you can choose. Prianka Chopra or Eiza Gonzalez, Jennifer Aniston or Dakota Johnson also know about it.

9. Clean girl look

Slick buns, as well as straight, combed-back hair, are popular among the world's top models. Today, these stylings are among the most sought-after and most elegant at the world's fashion shows, and they look good even on a regular day. They will please especially on days when you just can't keep up. A bun is a good choice even if you have more expressive makeup or a more sophisticated outfit.

"On photoshoots, but this also applies in everyday life, if the make-up is dominant, we have to get the hair out of the way," says Tichý.

Bonus: Forget crazy "hairdos"

Naturalness, as we have already outlined, is now welcome at weddings or balls and other social events. You really can't go wrong with your hair down or half down - with only a few strands tied back. The above-mentioned simple bun is also very modern in all ways, sleek, casual or slightly wavy.

"At weddings, I would definitely not go for trends, but for simplicity. The bride should be gentle, romantic, a bit sexy. A wedding is once in a lifetime, while you will experience several balls. You can easily afford trends there, but as I say, but the all-natural rules everywhere today and I'm very happy about that," he says. A few weeks ago, JLo also chose simple hairstyles for her dream wedding with Ben Affleck. She kept her hair in a bun and combed back, decorated with only delicate pearl earrings and a veil.
