A shocking video from a restaurant in the north of the country, which captures a brutal attack on a woman by a group of men, shook China to the core. The attack took place last Friday around 2.40 am in Tangshan City, where women were enjoying a late dinner at a barbecue restaurant when one of the company's customers noticed their table, writes CNN.

The man only glanced at the table at first, but gradually gained courage. He came to the women, looked for one of them, put his hand on her back, and tried to show affection to her. However, the woman was not interested in such touches and she repeatedly pushed the man's hand away. This angered him so much that he slapped her and threw her to the ground.

5 men in Tangshan (唐山), Hebei province, brutally assaulted a woman in a restaurant after she turned down unwanted attention from one of them. The woman suffered serious injuries, and the attack has sparked furious demands to address misogyny in China.

The whole incident took a rapid turn from this point on. Several friends came to the man's help, the women tried to defend their friend, but they did not have a chance against their strength. The assailant finally grabbed the woman by the hair, pulled her out of the restaurant, where he threw her on the sidewalk, and he and his friends repeatedly kicked her.

Security camera footage captures how the attacker even jumps on her head several times. The woman received several blows with glass bottles or chairs and had to be hospitalized immediately after the attack. In total, doctors had to keep two women in the hospital, who, fortunately, survived the attack without lasting consequences.

The incident in China has sparked a major debate about the "systematic gender-based violence" that according to thousands of people on social media still exists in Chinese society today. The public criticized the police for only addressing the attack after the video became viral. The police managed to detain all nine suspects.
