The fashion world has been eagerly waiting to see where this genius eccentric would end up. Gucci? Balenciaga? The former creative director of Dior, however, has announced a two-year partnership with Zara.
It's been over a year since John Galliano closed his unforgettable, decade-long era at Maison Margiela in 2024, according to Vogue. His swan song (the legendary Artisanal collection show, where models strolled along the moonlit Seine like eerie dolls) is etched in history.
Since then, the fashion world has been buzzing with speculations about his next move. Instead of stepping into another historic fashion house as expected, he’s taken a path few saw coming. The British designer, who single-handedly defined Dior’s aesthetic in the late '90s, has officially announced a two-year creative partnership with Zara.
What happens when the global infrastructure of a fast-fashion giant meets the mind of one of fashion’s greatest visionaries? According to an official statement, Galliano has been given the freedom to delve into the brand’s archives, which he plans to “deconstruct and reconfigure into new seasonal expressions”. We’ll see the outcome of this design alchemy in September 2026.
The designer himself confirmed to Vogue that work in his Paris studio is already in full swing. “Bringing fashion to such a vast platform is, of course, exciting. And being able to work with the resources they have is just as fascinating,” he expressed with enthusiasm. It remains to be seen how Zara will present this collection, but it’s highly likely we’ll witness a grand show during fashion week.
