Let's take a look at what new series have been announced to bless the streaming platforms in the upcoming year. Oftentimes, we don't know the exact dates of their premieres, as their creators do not always know precisely when the post-production will be complete.

Disclaimer: Series like Sex Education, Succession, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Rick and Morty, don't have set premiere dates yet. However, if they get published in 2022, some of them would definitely make it in this top 10.

Stranger Things, The Boys, and The Lord of the Rings would probably fit into the top 10 as well. However, we already included them in an article about the most anticipated series of 2021. So it's only fair for us to give space to other series.

1. Ozark – January 21st (Netflix)

One of the best crime series in recent years transports us to the Ozark area of the United States, where the father of an ordinary family, Marty Byrde, had to start building a business empire that would allow him to launder money. If he fails, they might kill him and his family. Byrde is involved with a drug cartel, and there's no patience there.

Ozark is a family crime scene with exciting moments and plot twists that move the story significantly forward. It was no different at the end of the last season in which the leader of the Navarro cartel killed his lawyer and assistant, who protected the Byrd family.

The fourth and last series will pick up at this very moment. It will be divided into two parts, and the first one should appear on Netflix on January 21st. Expect some interesting new characters as well.

2. Better Call Saul – 2022 (AMC)

The best drama series of this era comes from the creators of Breaking Bad and focuses on events before the birth of Heisenberg. The main character is the lawyer Saul, portrayed by Bob Odenkirk. He dropped out in the making of the last season due to heart problems caused by harsh conditions during filming in the desert.

However, he managed to pull himself together and finish the series, so we're in for an emotional and powerful story closing. We are especially curious about the Kim Wexler character, who wasn't featured in the Breaking Bad series, so we don't know what happened to her. Some characters will undoubtedly die, and given their background in the mafia world, you may as well guess which ones.

Better Call Saul is a perfectly filmed series from the technical perspective, with brilliant dialogues and fascinating scenes. In addition, the series is decorated with some top-notch acting performances.

3. Atlanta – March 24th (FX)

We're finally getting a new season after almost four years of waiting. The delay was caused both by covid and the busy working calendar of actors, including the rapper and actor Donald Glover (Childish Gambino). The creators used this time to write the scripts for the 3rd and 4th seasons, which they shot at once. The fourth season will air at the beginning of 2023 at the latest.

The overwhelming part of the 3rd season takes place in Europe, where Earn (Donald Glover), Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry), Darius (LaKeith Stanfield), and Van (Zazie Beetz) go on tour. They quickly find out that they feel like outsiders there.

4. House of the Dragon – 2022

This is a series from the world of the Game of Thrones, before the events of the original story unfold. The story takes place two hundred years before Ned Stark went to King’s Landing. The land was then ruled by the Targaryen family and their bloodline associated with dragons.

With their help, they mastered everything they wanted. Paddy Considine plays King Visery Targaryen, the successor of King Jaehaerys. Steve Toussaint plays the role of Lord Corlys Velaryon, known as The Sea Snake, the greatest naval adventurer in the history of Westeros.

Emma D'Arcy (Truthseekers) as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Matt Smith (Prince Philip in The Crown series) as her uncle, Prince Daemon Targaryen, also play important roles. Rhys Ifans is the Hand of the King (similar as Tyrion for the Daenerys) Otto Hightower and Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One) his daughter Alicent Hightower

5. Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty – 2022 (HBO)

Viewers worldwide were captivated by The Last Dance documentary, so we can imagine that the dramatized version of the famous basketball story will intrigue them just as well. This time, it won't focus on Michael Jordan. The Winning Time series will zoom in on the Los Angeles Lakers basketball team in the 80s, when Earvin Magic Johnson starred in the team, among others. He is portrayed by Quincy Isaiah.

The series also features Adrian Brody, John C. Reilly, Rob Morgan, and Jason Segel. We were highly interested in the 80's style sneak peeks.

In addition to sports itself, the series also focuses on the human psyche, sex, drugs, and everything that accompanied basketball and the star players in the '80s. Adam McKay (The Big Short, Don't Look Up) directed the series, among others. He and the actor Jonah Hill directed about one episode each.

6. The Last of Us – 2022 (HBO)

One of the series that takes the longest to make (filming is expected to take a whole year between summer 2020 and 2021) is also one of the most anticipated series globally. Not only is it an adaptation of the famous and unforgettable video game The Last of Us, but it's also a big HBO project that takes the video game world seriously.

One of the episodes is also directed by the play's director, Neil Druckmann. Several episodes were also made by Jasmila Žbanić (Quo Vadis, Aida? - the best film of 2021 according to the editorial staff of Refresher).

The plot should be the same as in the games. On September 26th, 2013 (The Outbreak Day), the cordyceps brain infection spread beyond the tolerable limit, and the world began to collapse. It is transmitted through the air, but especially by a bite of an infected person, and the transformation may take several days.

The infected person becomes a mindless, aggressive individual resembling a fast zombie. In the game, we follow the story of Joel Miller, who loses his daughter during the outbreak. Twenty years later, Joel lives in a safe zone in Boston when he is given the task to smuggle teenage Ellie out of town. It turns out that she's the first person immune to the infection, and the remaining scientists will try to develop a drug based on her immunity. Joel has to get through the entire United States with her and kill the violent and infected people.

7. Obi-Wan Kenobi – 2022 (Disney+)

Star Wars is transforming itself entirely into the serial world. Even though some projects don't interest us much (such as Boba Fett), others cause a significant amount of excitement. One of them is the miniseries about Obi-Wan and the years he spent from the end of Episode 3 to the beginning of Episode 4.

Get ready for lightsaber fights, a lot of Ewan McGregor, and most of all, Darth Vader. He is portrayed by Hayden Christensen from the prequel trilogy (episodes 1, 2, and 3). We wouldn't be surprised to also see Darth Maul and other Sith lords or Jedi knights.

8. Ted Lasso – 2022 (Apple TV+)

We fell in love with Ted Lasso, just like the rest of the world. He's an incredibly delightful person with a good heart and an excellent understanding for anyone who needs a friend or someone to listen to them. However, Ted himself is a complicated person who makes mistakes and suffers from anxiety and suppressed pain from the past.

As an American football coach, he has come to England to coach a team from the Premier League football, but he is not doing so great. Over the two seasons, he proved that he wouldn't give up until his beloved team reached the top.

In the 2nd season, there was less football, but that doesn't matter, because you'll be impressed by an entirely different type of scenes. You'll love the characters in their casual environment instead of the football field, and you'll be thrilled to see how their stories unfold. Thanks to the themes, unique humor, and great atmosphere, Ted Lasso is fantastic.

9. Pam & Tommy – 2. február (Hulu)

Story of the cult duo - actress Pamela Anderson and musician Tommy Lee. Specifically addressing their homemade porn tape, which was stolen and published by Rand Gauthier (Seth Rogen).

Alongside Lily James, Sebastian will star as Tommy Lee (Bucky from Captain America and Marvel). Lily James is a beautiful actress, but her transformation into Pamela takes our breath away. You can judge for yourself how much she resembles her.

The series was directed by Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya) and written by Rob Siegel (The Wrestler) and screenwriter The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story. No wonder it looks so appealing in the first trailer already.

10. What We Do in the Shadows – 2022 (FX)

The excellent comedy about vampires has taken an interesting new direction. Friends and vampire roommates broke up and set out on their own life journeys. We really don't want to spoil anything for you, so just catch up on the first three seasons real quick. The fourth will air at FX later this year, as the creators have managed to complete it in 2021 already.

The story is told through the lens of documentary team camerapeople who do not interfere in any way and only observe the climax, often interviewing the characters about their feelings in the process.

Bonus: Invincible

Honestly, we didn't expect the Superhero animated series to be that good. In the end, the 1st season earned an honorable 3rd place in our ranking of the ten best series of 2021, and we just can't wait for the next episodes to come. However, it's not yet certain whether Amazon Prime Video will complete it this year, so we are only mentioning it here as a bonus.

A few that didn't fit: final series of Peaky Blinders, Marvel series (She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, Secret Invasion, Echo), Mandalorian, Euphoria, Bridgerton, Halo, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Killing Eve, Outlander, The Crown, Westworld, Bridgerton, Sandman, Yellowstone, Hacks, Barry, Witcher: Blood Origin.
