The extremely talented Leonard DiCaprio is among the very best Hollywood has to offer, thanks to his hard work and incredible perception of individual characters. You may not know that Leo was turned down by a casting agent when he was 11, but the LA boy was not discouraged from pursuing his acting career despite everything. Today, directors are fighting over him and we can't wait to see what he has in store for us with his upcoming projects.
10. Catch Me If You Can (directed by Steven Spielberg, 2002)
At the time of Spielberg's biographical film Catch Me If You Can, Leo was already a success success story, the star of Titanic, playing alongside Meryl Streep (Marvin's Room) and Daniel Day-Lewis (The New York Ganges). Here, he shows his acting talent as a young Frank Abagnale Jr., who, by falsifying checks and documents, pretended to be a pilot, a lawyer and a pediatrician, until, years later, he was caught by the FBI.
DiCaprio approaches film preparation responsibly, as evidenced by the fact, that he met the real Frank Abagnale Jr. several times and tape-recorded his chats with him. He wanted to find out why the people around him trusted him and how he convince them. The crime drama Catch Me If You Can, where young Leo managed to shine alongside Tom Hanks, cannot be left out of this list.
9. Titanic (directed by James Cameron, 1997)
Several actors have tried for the role of Jack Dawson, the star-crossed love of Rose Dewitt Bukater. Matthew McConaughey had read the script with Kate Winslet, but Leo truly attracted the attention of a female audience. James Cameron couldn't help but wonder why all the women in the building had flocked to his meeting, which convinced him that Leo would be the better Jack.
For Leo and Kate, this was followed by a demanding filming of a feature film about the famous steamer, which sank into the depths of the Atlantic Ocean in 1912. The story of a fateful encounter between poor young Jack and rich Miss Rose is fictional, but nevertheless, managed to capture the hearts of many viewers.
Thanks to the amazing chemistry of the film couple, piercing emotions and the tragic end of fateful love, we watched this masterpiece win 11 Oscars. It has everything - tension, beautiful costumes, and star-crossed lovers played by the captivating Kate Winslet and the charming Leonardo DiCaprio.
8. The Aviator (directed by Martin Scorsese, 2004)
An excellent biographical drama by Martin Scorsese, had Leonardo DiCaprio perform one of his best performances without debate. The story of aviation pioneer, film director and magnate Howard Hughes was flawless in terms of script, actor selection (in addition to DiCaprio you will see Alan Alda, Ian Holm, Cate Blanchett and Kate Beckinsale) and portrayed emotion. Despite almost three hours of footage, you will not be bored. Out of the 11 Oscar nominations, The Aviator took home a total of 5 wins.
7. Revolutionary Road (directed by Sam Mendes, 2008)
Fans of Titanic wished for another collaboration between DiCaprio and Winslet. Wishes came true in 2008, when we were able to see this duo star in the drama Revolutionary Road, directed by Sam Mendes. This time, they portrayed April and Frank Wheeler, who live a seemingly exemplary middle-class life in the 1950s American suburbs, but, their marriage is hit by the crisis, just a couple of years later. Despite their efforts to work on serious relationship problems, the household is slowly falling apart.
This emotional picture will make you experience every argument, every change in their relationship alongside them. There is no doubt that Kate and Leo's long-term friendship, brought mutual trust into their work, creating a perfect harmony of acting, undoubtedly worth watching.
6. Django Unchained (directed by Quentin Tarantino, 2012)
In the western Django Unchained, he captivated us with the monologue of plantation and slave owner Calvin Candie. Slave Django and his traveling companion, Dr. Schultz, come to his land to find Django's wife, Broomhild.
By the way, during the filming of the dinner scene, Leo became so upset that he accidentally injured his hand, banging it on the table and breaking a glass goblet. DiCaprio went beyond the limits of his acting, as he continued to shoot despite his injury, as if nothing had happened.
Seeing Django, you will understand that Leo is not all about those positive characters, but can also to convincingly play a negative supporting role, which secured him a Golden Globe nomination.
5. The Departed (directed by Martin Scorsese, 2006)
The collaborations between Leo and Martin Scorsese have never been described by attributes other than brilliant, stunning or ingenious. Each of these parameters is delivered through Leo's role as a gangster from the Boston underworld, The Departed. In the film, Scorsese examines the acting maxims of the greats such as Jack Nicholson, Martin Sheen, Alec Baldwin, Matt Damon, Mark Wahlberg and, of course, Leonardo DiCaprio.
DiCaprio demonstrates just how much he can bend his character. In the film, he portrays a policeman who infiltrates the mafia, while his counterpart Matt Damon, as one of the members of the underworld, puts on a police uniform with a badge.
4. Shutter Island (directed by Martin Scorsese, 2010)
We consider DiCapria to be an excellent actor who never chooses simple roles. He likes complicated characters and his career makes for a diverse film selection. Filming the Shutter Island made him particularly emotionally exhausted, as Detective Teddy Daniels really got under his skin.
Teddy Daniels travels to an island alongside a colleague, visiting a local hospital for mentally ill criminals to investigate the disappearance of murderer Rachel Solando. The patient escaped from the facility, despite being in a heavily guarded cell. Daniels sets out to solve this mystery and gradually uncovers the secrets of the hospital.
We are not in the least surprised that Scorsese repeatedly casts Leo in his films, nor are we surprised that DiCaprio signs further collaborations with the Oscar-winning director. As for the film, it's an amazing acting performance, an interesting treatment of the story with an interestingly varied film cast. Shutter Island will strengthen your impression of the director's talent and his ability to make a quality film adaptation of a book, and together with Leo in the lead role, it will draw you into the thrilling story of a mysterious island.
3. The Revenant (directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, 2015)
Leo DiCaprio undergone a physically demanding shooting in the freezing cold of Argentina and Canada to portray the hunter Hugh Glass, who miraculously survives a bear attack. When he finds out that a member of the hunting team killed his son, he travels through the wilderness, using his survival skills to take his revenge.
It never ceases to amaze us how Leo takes on the challenges of work in the extreme conditions. Because of Revenant, he consumed raw liver, wore a wet or frozen bear coat, and plunged into a freezing river. Every day he fought to avoid hypothermia, but did not escape the flu a few times.
We can't imagine that DiCaprio would not win the Oscar for his performance in Revenant, as he risked his health and psyche for the film. Watching the film, we had no doubt that he approached the project with respect, love for nature and for acting.
2. Whats Eating Gilbert Grape (directed by Lasse Hallström, 1993)
One of Leonardo DiCaprio's first serious roles was an immediate success, nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe. In the film, director Lasse Hallström tells us about the adolescence of a young Gilbert (Johnny Depp), who is struggling with his first love for the girl Becky (Juliette Lewis), while caring for his mentally handicapped brother Arnie (Leonardo DiCaprio). This strong and very humane film abounds with the great atmosphere of a small American town and excellent actors.
1. The Wolf of Wall Street (directed by Martin Scorsese, 2013)
The winner of our list is the millionaire Jordan Belfort, played by none other than our favourite Leonard DiCaprio. This three-hour biographical drama is based on Belford's novel, revealing the life of a stockbroker who, with a few dollars in his pocket, rose into through the ranks and made himself one of the most famous names in the world of finance.
Unforgettable moments and great humorous dialogues carry you throughout the film until you will suddenly find, that the film is over and you didn't even have time to get bored. Leo gave a phenomenal performance for which he deserved an Oscar (but the statue was won by McConaughey for the Dallas Buyers Club). The Academy eventually decided not to award a single statue to the Wolf of Wall Street, despite the five nominations, but this in no way detracts from the quality of the film.
