Bruce Willis' family announced, that the actor is ending his active acting career. Doctors diagnosed him with aphasia, a disorder associated with loss of speech. This means that Bruce Willis will not be able to communicate verbally in the future.

Bruce Willis has made a number of low-quality films in recent years, films, that have not even made it to the cinema. In the last two and a half years, he has made almost 20 films, almost all of which have received very negative reviews. However, despite his latest film streak, Bruce Willis is a Hollywood legend who has starred in numerous great films.

1. Sin City (directed by Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez, 2005)

Film length: 2 h a 4min

Where can you watch: Amazon Prime Video

The action film based on comics has a unique black and white visual and is extremely rough. The story follows three storylines. In one, Mickey Rourke appears as a dangerous and almost indestructible gangster with a desire for revenge, in another a street criminal wants to prevent wars between gangs and cops, and in the third one, we see Bruce Willis as a detective who wants to solve the murder of a little girl before his retirement.

Like the comics, the film is full of brutal battles and shots which depict a lot of blood. In addition to Willis and Rourke, you can also look forward to seeing actors such as Benicio Del Toro, Jessica Alba and Clive Owen. Director Quentin Tarantino helped out with the film.

2. 12 Monkeys (directed by Terry Gilliam, 1995)

Film length: 2 h a 10min

Where can you watch: Amazon Prime Video

If you fancy a film that will really mess with your head, you won't find anything better than the drama 12 Monkeys. The story takes place 29 years after an unknown perpetrator released a dangerous virus. More than five billion people died within the first two years.

The character, played by Bruce Willis, lives in 2025 and is one of the prisoners sent back to the past by scientists. Prisoners have no way of preventing this tragedy, because the past cannot be changed. However, they are to find out who is behind the virus being released and what the virus is, and send this information to scientists in the future so they can develop antibodies.

In addition to the great Bruce Willis, Brad Pitt also starred in the film. 12 Monkeys is an excellent mysterious thriller with unexpected plot twists and secrets, which are still the subject of various controversies in film debates, and the reason why this film is a so-called mindf * ck.

3. Die Hard (directed by John McTiernan, 1988)

Film length: 2 h a 12min

Where to watch: Disney+ or Youtube

Die Hard was Bruce Willis's first major film, now considered a great classic in the genre. He introduced himself as a sympathetic action hero John McClane, who prevented a terrorist attack and managed to entertain the viewer with funny quips and witty one-liners in the process.

The main villain was played by the great actor Alan Rickman (which also played Snape in the Harry Potter films) in the unforgettable role of Hans Gruber. The second and third films are also excellent.

4. Moonrise Kingdom (directed by Wes Anderson, 2012)

Film length: 1 h a 30min

Where to watch: Netflix

Director and screenwriter Wes Anderson's successful comedy gave Bruce Willis room to show his humorous talents. The actor recites several funny dialogues and brings variety to the whole story. The flick is only an hour and a half long and can be watched on Netflix, so be sure to give it a shot.

Set in the 1960s, the story focuses on two children who think they are in love and decide to flee to the forest. Their escape turns the whole town upside down and the local sheriff (Bruce Willis) starts organizing a big search. Actors such as Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Tilda Swinton and Frances McDormand are also a big sell for the film.

5. Sixth Sense (directed by M. Night Shyamalan, 1999)

Film length: 1h a 47min

Where to watch: Disney+

The first collaboration between actor Bruce Willis and director / screenwriter M. Night Shyamalan resulted in an engaging, mysterious film. Every movie lover already knows its ending and the very famous turn of events, but we would rather not reveal the plottwist anyway.

So all you need to know about the story is that Bruce Willis plays a psychologist whose newest patient is a little boy. He claims to see dead people, which explain the circumstances of their murders to him. The drama has a captivating ending, an emotional twist and some great acting performances.

6. Unbreakable (directed by M. Night Shyamalan, 2000)

Film length: 1 h a 47min

Where to watch: Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, Google films

The second collaboration between director Shyamalan and actor Bruce Willis came a year later and turned out to be another gem. This time we watch the story of a hero, who doesn't wear a cape and whom people don't call a superhero. He is an ordinary guy with ordinary work who discovers superpowers and begins to use them for good.

7. Fifth Element (directed by Luc Besson, 1997)

Film length: 1 h a 53min

Where to watch: Amazon Prime Video

Legendary sci-fi by French director Luc Besson surprised many. Despite the fact that the visual effects were not at a very high level in 1997, he was able to shoot brilliant-looking sci-fi set on another planet and in space.

The story includes aliens of various shapes, flying cars and an engaging plot that will keep the viewer in suspense until the very end. In addition to Willis, film also stars Gary Oldman, Chris Tucker and the charming Mila Jovovich.

8. Armageddon (directed by Michael Bay, 1998)

Film length: 2 h a 30min

What to watch: Disney+, Amazon Prime Video or Google films

Director Michael Bay has outperformed himself with this film. His action blockbuster is one big, sometimes pointless, but nevertheless amazing "popcorn" party. In the film, the director of NASA learns, that in 18 days an asteroid as big as the state of Texas will collide with the planet Earth. He quickly puts together a team of specialists who go into space and try to drill a hole in said asteroid, in order to place a nuclear bomb there, destroy the asteroid and thus prevent the destruction of the entire planet.

There is no need to overthink the logic and the real-life implications, when watching this film. It's "stupid fun," but in the best possible sense. NASA sends hefty men into space working on an offshore drilling rig. You can expect a lot of jokes, quips and witty dialogues between your favourite actors. In addition to Willis, you will see Ben Affleck, Billy Bob Thornton, Steve Buscemi, Owen Wilson and more.

9. Pulp Fiction (directed by Quentin Tarantino, 1994)

Film length: 2 h a 34min

Where to watch: Hulu or Amazon Prime Video

One of the greatest film classics and perhaps the best film by the director and screenwriter Quentin Tarantino. A cult action crime comedy set in the 1980s. At its centre are two mobsters, a boxer, a gangster and his wife, and other criminals, whose stories periodically intersect.

It seems like an incredible story full of coincidences and bizarre events. However, it works and Tarantino directed it masterfully. Reviewers praised the period atmosphere, soundtrack, camera, storyline, plot-twist moments or actors' performances, that you will not forget. Pulp Fiction is a legendary classic and Bruce Willis's performance has contributed significantly in making it so.

10. Last Boy Scout (directed by Tony Scott, 1991)

Film length: 1 h a 45min

Where to watch: Amazon Prime Video

US reviewers did not take kindly to this film, it was, however, much more successful in  Europe. Director Tony Scott brought together two very different characters. Private Detective Joe, who, as a special agent once rescued the US President, has to team up with American football player Jimmy to find out who killed Jimmy's girlfriend and why.

What can you expect? Witty Bruce Willis, very successful comedy elements and some great chemistry between Bruce Willis and Damon Wayans.

Bonus: Death Becomes Her (directed by Robert Zemeckis, 1992)

Film length: 1 h a 43min

Where to watch: Netflix

In this film, Bruce Willis proved, that he can also be a comedy actor. He plays a plastic surgeon who succumbs to alcohol, alongside actresses Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn.

This film is entertaining with a simple story.
