Movies Under 90 Minutes. The 10 Best Movies That You Can Enjoy Super Fast

The older we get, the less time we have for movies. Some of us reach for series that are shorter, rather than having to watch over 2-hour long feature films. Nowadays it is a rarity, but in the past there were many quality films that were no longer than an hour and a half (90 minutes).

1. Commando (1985)

Compared to other legendary action films of the actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Commando is somewhat weaker. However, Commando is still a fun action canapé with Austrian bodybuilder witticisms, lots of killing, shooting and explosions. This is a must-see for fans of the action genre (especially action movies from the 80s and 90s) and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

2. Zombieland (2009)

Zombieland is an original zombie movie with lots of action and fresh ideas. All the actors shine bright, including Bill Murray in a minor role, and we also appreciated the bloody destruction of the zombies and especially the humour. Sequel is also okay, but if you skip it, you won't lose much.

3. Frankenstein (1931)

Don't be put off by the vintage year of production. Although Frankenstein has aged and you can feel that he is 90 years old, he still has something to say to the contemporary viewer. The birth of the titular Frankenstein's monster is now iconic. The surprise is that the sequel called Bride of Frankenstein is perhaps even better. The scene with the blind man or the very finale of the sequel are unforgettable. If you're in the mood for a bit of old-school terror, you'll thoroughly enjoy these two films.

4. Sausage Party (2016)

"Sausage Party" is one of the most disgusting movies on this list. Hollywood creators and comedians such as Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan are responsible for the flick. We still don't understand how they managed to convince the Hollywood studio Sony to make an animated film for adults, in which the food on the shelves of stores comes to life, starts murdering each other and enjoys sexual orgies.

You surely remember the unpleasant situation at the time, when parents took their children to the movie, thinking it was a children's animated movie, then they ran away from the theater in horror. If you like problematic humour, you will enjoy plenty of it here.

5. Palm Springs (2020)

Palm Springs is a likable romantic comedy with charismatic actors who put themselves in the shoes of human and authentic characters. In the film, actors Andy Samberg and Cristin Miloti get stuck in a time loop from which there is no escape.

In addition to reliving the same day over and over for several years, they must deal with a mysterious man who is seeking the life of one of them. The film perfectly manages the combination of humorous and romantic elements of the plot.

6. Airplane! (1980)

Airplane! is proof that good parodies exist, even if there have been very few of them in the past years. This picture with Leslie Nielsen is a great comedy full of original and funny scenes, although you won't find them in the trailer.

It's one of those cases where the trailer is weak, but the movie gets you excited. Several scenes will make you laugh repeatedly. The legend that is Leslie Nielsen is a strong enough reason to watch in itself. In this case, it doesn't even matter if you have no idea which films this film is the parody of.

7. Cloverfield (2008)

Did you know that the director of the comic book The Batman and the last two installments of Planet of the Apes was the same person who made the very surprising hit Cloverfield? It is from the genre of found footage, in which we follow the story of the film in the form of amateur shots on ordinary people's cameras. The story focuses on partygoers in New York who are surprised by devastating tremors and explosions throughout the city.

Everyone starts to panic and gradually they see a huge monster in the sky that is destroying the city. We watch the entire film through a shaky camera, which in itself is a fresh treatment in the sci-fi genre. We thus see the invasion of aliens/monsters through the eyes of ordinary people experiencing these horrors in the streets of the city.

8. Rope (1948)

Alfred Hitchcock was a legendary director who, admittedly, also has better quality films in his repertoire, but this one is a bit unconventional in its style. The plot follows two friends having dinner with old acquaintances. There would be nothing unusual about this, if they did not hide the body of their friend in the chest on which they serve food. He was strangled shortly before dinner.

It could have been the perfect crime since there was no motive. They wanted to prove to themselves that murder is an art and they are the superior individuals who can decide about life and death. This idea was given to them by their former professor, who also happens to be at the party. The minimalist film develops in an interesting way, while there is no shortage of intellectual debates and an engaging atmosphere.

9. I Lost My Body (2019)

This is probably the most unconventional picture on the list. You will enjoy its emotional and well-told story. The creators tried to do this in the form of eye-pleasing audiovisual scenes, but also with the help of elaborate dialogues that make you really think about their tone.

The plot follows the character of Naofel, who falls in love with Gabrielle after a short phone call and does everything to get close to her. Meanwhile, in the second spectrum, we watch a severed hand trying to reach its owner.

Fortunately, the film does not try to explain to the viewer what this is supposed to mean, and works primarily on a poetic level. I Lost My Body basically has no ending, because the ending is the definitive, final and undesirable state of this story, which is supposed to continue in your head. Maybe forever. It is full of metaphors, deep thoughts and scenes that will stick in your memory.

10. Rashomon (1950)

Rashomon is considered by film critics and historians to be one of the breakthrough achievements of Japanese cinema. The story follows four different people who tell the same story about a raped woman and her murdered husband. However, everyone lies and embellishes their version to make them look like a better person. It probably won't surprise you that this legendary film was directed by the even more legendary Japanese director Akira Kurosawa.

If you watch the series of the same name, which is objectively better quality than the movie, then you know, why we also recommend the movie. It started it all. It was carried in the style of mockumentary, where the creators combine elements of parody, comedy and documentary style.
