The End Of Kids On Instagram? The Social Media Platform Wants To Control The Age Of Its Users By Scanning Their Faces

The Instagram social network has a condition in its rules that users cannot be under the age of 13. So far, they have verified this fact by entering the date of birth, but many have lied and sidestepped the rules, writes The Independent.
However, a change is coming with a new form of technology created by the British company Yoti. It should scan the user's face to determine their age.
"No ID check required. Technology cannot detect anything extra about a person, nor can it uniquely identify that person. Estimating the age of the face is effective and it is a safe function for age control, " says Yoti.
However, the accuracy of the technology did not prove to be in the best light. According to the log, after testing the software, the function was wrong by up to 20 years. The testing phase was targeted at users who would potentially like to change their date of birth and impersonate adults in the app.
These accounts are set up as private by default. In addition, Instagram is coming with a new feature that verifies a person's age by having it confirmed by three adult followers.
