The Famous Banger By Danish Band Aqua Will Not Be Featured In The New Barbie Movie. Mattel Sued Them In The Past.

Come on Barbie, let's go party. The lyrics to the famous song by Aqua will not be heard in the new movie. This is due to past argument caused by Mattel's legal action against MCA Records.

The song Barbie Girl by Aqua from 1997 immediately became a hit. Many fans expected for the song to be a part of the new Barbie movie where Margot Robbie is to play Barbie. However, the hit will not be included.

Although many fans believe the hit should be a part of the movie, the Variety portal has informed that it will not be the case. "This song will not be a part of the film," said Møller-Jørgensen, the manager ofAqua's lead singer Aqua Lene Nystrøm, for Variety.

In the past, a conflict emerged between the band Aqua and the company producing Mattel toys, who also owns the Barbie brand. After the Barbie Girl song became a hit in 1997, the company Mattel sued MCA Records who covered the song's distribution in the USA. Despite the fact that they sold 1.4 million copies and became number one in the US billboard chart, Mattel was not happy about the lyrics and the music video.

The company Mattel was worried about the lyrics allegedly depicting Barbie as promiscuous potentially harming the product's reputation. They did not like Ken's words either, when he replied to Barbie: "Kiss me here, touch me there." They also had objections to the music video where Ken accidentally ripped off Barbie's arm.

MCA Records stated in their reaction that the song as well as the music video were parodies and brought their own lawsuit against Mattel for defamation as a result of statements of Mattel's spokesman during the trial.

„Even if we considered the lyrics acceptable, we would not take back the lawsuit because they released and distributed the song without our consent and knowledge," said Mattel's spokesman and he labeled the act as theft.

The district court in California denied the allegations of both sides and asked them to calm down. Nonetheless, it seems that the conflict is still going on 25 years later.
