He built his reputation on "ancestral principles" and eating raw meat. However, he owes his significantly muscular figure to steroids, even though he claimed for a long time that he did not use them. We talked about the fitness influencer Liver King with trainer and nutritionist Erika Zajacová.
"People want a sensation. If someone says 'look at me, I'm eating raw steak and I have big muscles', they're sure to get more attention than someone who follows nutritional science. These are boring for the general population: plenty of fruit, vegetables, as little processed food as possible, plenty of protein. If you say 'look, I eat a varied and balanced diet and I have big muscles', it won't be as interesting as someone tearing into raw meat with their teeth," says Zajacová.
The image of the muscular Liver King based on eating raw meat is not only one big lie, but also encourages many followers to unhealthy eating practices. "Eating raw brings basically no benefits. In the best case, you just eat raw meat, in the worst, you are risking serious health problem - you risk infection, for example, with Campylobacter, E. coli and the like".
He profits from human stupidity
Exercisers would not have great success even if they ate exclusively heat-treated meat and neglected a varied diet. "We have no scientific evidence to support the carnivore diet (meat diet). On the contrary, we have plenty of them to support a 'normal' varied diet that meets general recommendations. The carnivore diet is a controversial way of eating, but it is not supported by scientific recommendations. We do not know its long-term effect on health or the intestinal microbiome. Claims that this is how our ancestors lived are misleading - a large part of our ancestors' diet consisted of plant-based food. They were hunter-gatherers, not just hunters," explains the nutritionist.
The figure that the Liver King shows to the world is not the result of eating raw meat, but above all of quality training, a varied diet and, last but not least, the use of steroids, which the fitness influencer kept quiet about. However, he continues to add posts to his account with the consumption of raw meat and presents it as a miracle.
"Mr. Liver King made money - and probably still makes money - on human stupidity. If, even after this revelation and confession, someone still claims that he owes his figure to raw meat and his nutritional supplements, which he is very happy to sell you. It is important to mention the example it sets for the younger generation. I take steroids, I risk my health, I admit it - and people still love me. That is an appalling picture of today's society. Young people then prefer to look for someone who will sell them steroids, rather than focusing on something that can bring quality to their lives and will serve them in the long term - how to put together training and make long-term gains and progress," Erika Zajacová added to the topic.
