Uber, a company engaged in the provision of taxi services, is awaiting trial. They are being sued by 550 women for sexual assaults by drivers, reports The Independent. The victims accused the drivers of kidnapping, sexual assault and rape.
The damning allegations come just weeks after Uber revealed it had received up to 3,824 reports of sexual assault in 2019 and 2020. Law firm Slater Slater Schulman has now filed a civil suit against Uber on behalf of hundreds of victims.
"Uber's entire business model is based on providing people with a safe ride home, but that was never really their concern - growth was at the expense of the safety of their passengers," says Adam Slater from the aforementioned law firm, which is handling the Uber case.
He added that while Uber acknowledged and took note of sexual assault cases in recent years, its response was slow and inadequate with dire consequences. The lawyers filed the lawsuit in San Francisco County Superior Court.
