Russian president Vladimir Putin ordered the minister of defence Sergei Shoigu to continue the offensive pursuit of Russian units in Ukraine after taking control of the whole Luhansk area, informs AFP agency.

„Military units including the East and West groups have to complete their missions according to agreed plans," said Putin while expressing hope that everything will continue in the same manner as in the Luhansk operation.

On a Monday meeting with Putin, Shoigu informed that the operation to take control over Luhansk area was finalized on Sunday with the "liberation of one of the biggest cities of the Luhansk people's republic - the city of Lysychansk“.

The minister added that armed forces of the Russian federation continue in the so called special military operation, which is Moscow's official name for the invasion of Ukraine. Shoigu has informed at the meeting with Putin that currently, the de-mining of Lysychansk and its surroundings is taking place and that vans of humanitarian materials are being transported there and that civilians are provided health aid.

According to Reuters agency, Putin has congratulated Russian soldiers on "liberating" the Luhansk territory on the East of Ukraine.

At the meeting with Shoigu which was broadcasted by Russian television, Putin said that units taking part in the operation to seize the Luhansk territory should rest but other units should continue to fight.

The Reuters agency labeled the takeover of the Luhansk territory as a significant milestone in the military pursuit of Moscow in Ukraine.

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyj has said in his reaction to the development on the battlefield that Ukraine is not giving up anything and that territories they have lost will be reclaimed thanks to strategy and modern weapons.

According to him, Ukrainian army is advancing - in Charkov area as well as in Kherson area and on sea, with an effective example of the Snake island. "There will come a day when we will say the same about Donbas," said Zelenskyj.
