Stadium Collapsed During A Bullfight In Colombia. Several People Died And Hundreds Were Injured

At least four people died and more than three hundred were injured in the collapse of a part of the wooden stadium where the bullfight took place. The tragic event took place on Sunday.

Videos posted on social media showed how wooden grandstands full of people collapsed on one side of the arena in El Espinal in the western part of the country. The cause is not yet clear.

A child is among the deceased. 

According to the media, the arena hosted a popular corraleja event, during which locals take part in matches with smaller bulls. Visitors were surprised when the three-storey wooden structure began to crumble. Even as people fled the place, the bull continued to walk in the middle of the stadium.

Governor of Tolima department, Ricardo Orozco, told a local radio station that, according to preliminary data, two women, a man and a child, had died. The injuries of about 30 people were serious.

Orozco said he wanted to take steps to ban such events. According to him, they are not only dangerous, but also support animal cruelty. The newly elected Colombian President Gustavo Petro also called for a ban on amateur bullfighting.
